Dreyer & Reinbold

I ordered my 09 MCS from Dreyer and Reinbold and picked it up February 13, 2009

I had a couple problems and brought it in for service in July I had 14,xxx miles

Problems
-- Suspension problem, clunk when turning (dealer said loose lug nuts)
-- 1st Gen Ipod grounds out Speakerphone (unresolved)
-- hatch rattle (replaced latch, still same problem)
-- Squeaky/Clicking Clutch noise (replaced spring assembly, still same problem not as bad though)
-- Also had to fight with them to get an oil change, since the computer didn't say it was "ready"

Now December 23,055 Miles, I need to replace the tires, and still have all the same problems.

So I decide to buy new rims and tires...

The pics show what I found, the never removed the shipping block prior to delivery...

I was called first thing in the morning and told that if there was a problem it must have occurred after I had it in for service. They told me they talked the tech and he "fully inspected the suspension" and nothing was wrong except loose lug nuts.

Two hours later I get a call back stating that the piece that I found was a shipping block that should have been removed prior to delivery!

So how then did the problem occur after the last time I had it in?

I didn't re-ship my car from England...

They tell me that there is nothing wrong with my car, although the seals on the strut are toast.

I advised them that I believe the tires were worn prematurely since the suspension wasn't right all along...

So they wouldn't even replace the strut that was messed up from them failing to remove the shipping block...

They seemed surprised when I didn't believe them that everything was alright, since I had been told this before?

So now I have a blown strut that the dealer says is fine, my car doesn't drive like it should and never has...

Did you speak with the service manager. That would be the first step beyond the service adviser. Next up would be the Mini Rep that makes his round at the dealerships every month or so.

It would be great for you to know what you want from them (to fix and perhaps compensation or free service).

Good luck and please keep us posted.

What do the shipping blocks look like? Is it that yellow thing in the picture?

the yellow is the seal on the strut, the shipping blocks were on the car when it was on the ocean to prevent to much movement in shipping...

They are little white plastic things things that prevent travel of the suspension...

You can see this piece caught up in the spring on the first picture...

Oddly they returned this piece with the car, I am surprised since they are denying all responsibility for the problem...

MINI

I too have a mini....bought at Dryers...never liked thier service dept, so I deal with the Mini shop in Cincy.. Mine is an 05 with the sport group.. It was all fine till june 3rd of this year. It seems to have had a TOTAL Electrical system meltdown....Everything is fried, window and sunroof motors, body control module, speedo cluster, ABS pump, Power steering pump, you name it...I have the car back now and I am going to try to finish it myself. It was going to be at least 6000 bucks for the repairs!! I would not buy one again, but I am this far into it, I MUST fix it.. It is running now, but still has WAY too may problems to drive....Has anyone else has a total meltdown???

The yellow thing is a bumpstop, not a seal of any kind.

Holey moley!! another shipping block not removed prior to delivery. Somewhere this was discussed to death, and the dealer was suitably and rightfully trashed. Sounds like another candidate for tar and feathering.

The yellow isn't a strut seal. That's just a bumpstop.

When you say a seal is busted, do you just mean the ripped dustcover pictured or are the seals inside the strut body blown? If it's just the dust cover, that's not something to get too worried about.

The dealership doesn't accept any responsibility in this matter....

I contacted Mini USA and they basically state thats the dealers responsibility, of course it is...

I am contacting the BBB, and writing a letter to the Executive offices at BMW/Mini....

We will see if I get anything done...

Keep us updated on the outcome of your situation. Document dates names and times of every encounter. Escallate to the regional MINI service guy immediately and start using the "L" word ( Lawyer, not Lesbian ) . Dealers are happy to fix the manufacturers problems as it gets billed back, but in this case, the dealer is negligent and any fix comes from his pocket.

At the least, they should replace the strut dust boot that is ripped. At the most, they should ante up for new stuts and tires. Your settlement will be somewhere in the middle, likely closer to the min.
Persue this relentlessly, stick to the facts and don't bring up little stuff like rattles and oil changes that detract from your claim.

AND , BBB is a total waste of time. Tell them you will take them to small claims court.

I've had my share of issues with D&R service too. Nothing major (yet), but PLENTY of minor annoying issues.

For that reason, I'll never buy from them again. It's too bad because their sales team was/is awesome! I've never had a better car buying experience...

To the OP, good luck getting this straightened out. Please keep us posted.
