For those of your confused it's really rather simple and just made confusing by numerous posts. All you have to do to fix the low fan speed which comes on at 221 degrees and shuts off at 211 is jump the connections from the wire feeding from the harness at the capacitor over to the contact point at the outlet of the resistor so you are bypassing the capacitor and resistor. I jumped them both and cut them off entirely and my high speed comes on at 221 no problems. I really dont like 210 degrees + so to think high speed is 230+ is ridiculous to me. I think you will all be happy with this set up and it's free fix!

This thread is great, I used it to do the resistor kit replacement. But I ordered extra stuff; specificaly a complete fan assembly at one point. If your 2002 or early 2003 needs fixing and you don't want to mess with any soldering, or if you suspect the fan itself has problems, you can just drop in a complete new fan assembly. Here's the link to the market thread. https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...-assembly.html

and its £73 !!!!!!!!!!!!!! on amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/Blue-Print-A.../dp/B00B8YUE6M

@ that price you might as well replace the whole fan assembly...........

Cheers

Chris
Has anyone got a summary of Chris' fix and the parts needed ( available in UK ) - I can see the posts on page 5/6 of the thread but there's so many posts it's confusing - what is the current resistor of choice and what gauge wire would I need ( electrical numpty although i can solder etc )?

Cheers

Another successful fix. I mounted the resistor, with heat-sink compound, to my motor mount. (2005 R50)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2003-2008-Mi...Model%3ACooper

I bought this for my 2003 Cooper S R53. The one in there already only has two red wires, the one I bought has three wires (2 red, 1 blue). I'm assuming this is because they have packaged the resistor to fit multiple models.

The resistor has fixed the low speed fan, as I can hear it when the AC is on.
I haven't heard the high speed turn on since. I'm hoping its just not hot enough for it.

Should I also replace the 'box' relay?
How can I test the high speed now its back together?

No power for resistor fix.

What if there is no power in those wires at all? I have the car on, A/C on high, and tested with a voltmeter set to 10 VDC ranger. I would guess there should be power there right?

And thanks so much for this thread!

No power to fan?

I checked all of the fuses etc. Just not sure when there is supposed to be power on the wires. Anyone at all?

I tested them with an ohm meter. But I may just go ahead and buy them. Do you know which one and what part? Also, if it is behaving normally, is there power on those wires all the time? Or just when a relay closes?

Thanks!

N' The Thick Wire ( Hi Speed ) Is Always Power.

N' The Relays Are Under The Hood.
R3 & R4.
But You Can Switch W/ The Others Relays
R1 & R2

The R2 is The Same At R4
N' The R1 Is The Same At R3

If You Want Just Do The Bypass
From The Hi Speed To The Low Speed.

I Hope That Help You.

Yes! Great information. I have no power on those wires at all. All fuses are good. So relay is next option. I will swap relays first, then buy new ones just to see.

At first I added the resistor to the wires. When nothing happened, I checked power going to the wires....all dead. What is the bypass low-speed fix? I'll do a search for it too. VERY much appreciate the help.

Hi!
Socalr53.

I Buy My Resistor From Mouser.

http://ph.mouser.com/Search/m_Produc...wszHYUMk2NYg==

Is Really Easy.

From The Plug Of The Fan Just Disconnect The Thinner Wire
( Low Speed Fan ) N' That Wire Connect
To The Resistor.
N' The Other Wire From The Resistor Connect To The Thick Wire
( High Speed )
But The Thick Wire Don't Disconnect From The Plug.
