Transmission Problems (No one seems to want to fix it)

So I have had many issues with the transmission. Issues with it not shifting at the right times getting hung up, shaking/stuttering, and all out lurching. I have brought my Mini to the dealer many times and they tell me its just how the car works. I beg to differ. Cars are not built knowing that because of the tranny they will be jumping all over the place.

Places I have run into problems the most are:
  1. Slow accelerating
  2. Slowing at a stop light, then before coming to a complete stop the light turns green so I accelerate normally and the whole car shakes like it is in the wrong gear and cant figure out what gear to be in.
  3. Sometimes while doing the same thing as listed in #2 the whole car will lurch into the correct gear.
These things don't seem like something that would be happening to a 2007 car. I live in Charlotte, NC and I am going to have to bring it up to the dealer in Winston-Salem, NC. I am not particularly happy with the car right now.

Is anyone else getting the same issues or similar?

It is an Auto Transmission btw forgot to say that.

Have you driven a different MINI with auto to see if it drives the same?

Then get the SA to take a drive with you so you can point out the problems. Solves the whole "can't replicate problem" issue when getting warranty work.

I have done that. Their response was that all the cars do that.

What BS! Mine doesnt.

Plus the Aisin tranny has a generally good reliability record....

Id go to another dealer, get a second opinion.

Now, is this with Sport mode engaged? In regular "D" mode or manual?

mine does that all the time !
i push it to manual mode and if i drop it down to 1 at a stop light and i wait to long (2-3Sec) it goes like it was in third
shaking and evrything

and if i got smooth (from a start) it shift over the 3 000 rpm (at slow speed) form 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 after its okay

same with rapid decelerate 3 an up tu complete stop ! some time i stop and the car do a little bang and shake in the same time that make the car do the same thing if you where droping the clutch on a manual car ....

the dealer took a look and said that it was normal cuz the engine is mostly electric.......... weird
my car is a 2008.5 mini (non-S) automatic with convinience pacquage and got 6000K (im from montreal)

So I spoke with Flow Mini in Winston-Salem. They told me that they have no idea why Hendrick Mini wouldn't fix this problem. It is a well know problem they have had with some of the 2nd gen minis. The tranny's "adaptations" are set wrong and need to be reset. So I scheduled an appointment with them next Saturday.

MIMICOOPER08 - Bring your car to the dealer and ask them to do this. Maybe it will solve it. If you decide to let us know so if anyone else has the problem we can help them out.

I will post once I have my car back from Flow Mini. I sure hope this fixes the problem.

The AISIN automatic transmission is rock solid. If you want 100% reliability in a MINI, go auto...

Has this exact transmission been used in other vehicles, or is AISIN's reputation phenomenal? It would be good reassurance, as I drive particularly spirited.

Aisin is one of the world's largest producers of auto trannies, transaxles, etc. Other than a few software bugs when first released for the MCS back in late 05, these trannies have held up nicely and have proven their worth. here's a link to their automotive site:

http://www.aisin.com/product/automotive/index.html

after all the defective clutch and flywheel issues in my 2005 I swore off manual BMW products, and couldnt be happier with my Aisin-equipped 2009.

So I got a response to one of my surveys from Hendrick Mini(The ones who said this was normal)

They felt as though they cannot meet my expectation and that they encourage me to go work with Flow Mini. They said after reviewing my survey response they just don't feel that they can meet my expectations.

I'm just completely disappointed with this whole situation. I'm sorry is that what you do? If you get tired of dealing with your clients you just say sorry you're SOL. If Flow Mini cant get this sorted Mini Corporate is going to be getting a HUGE piece of my mind and they better be ready to work with me and this serious transmission problem.

so .... i went to the dealer the other day ...
my engine light came on !!!.... and my cpu started to show up some weird icon on the dash bord ... tire low .. windows with a ''!'' ... snow flake... all at once ... and to finish the nice engine light !
...
i took it in for services !
they change the CPU (it was burnt) ... they updated the new cpu ...

its been about 3 weeks that my car was running fine and yesterday BANG its hard shifting again and the engine do not have any power at all !! (a suzuki swift past me and i wasnt able to pass her back on the highway) no power .. and this morning all the same code show up .. except the engine code !!!
i call'd mini ... they told me that its normal cuz its cold outside !
... i think i call'd them to much ... they do not whant to service it ! ...

so i call'd another mini (bmw) and they told me: do not drive it at all ! we will drop down to pick it up !
the engine was knoking and pinking ...
and my temp sensor is showing all king of chineese weird symbol ...

anyway .. i will see in a few days what was the problem ... cuz they told me that they will check evrything ! cuz nothing seem normal !!

I know this is an old thread but I just wanted to say I feel your frustration with Hendrick. What a bunch of incompetent losers over there. When I got a response on my survey about some issues they have been unable to resolve after multiple visits, their general manager tried to sell me a new MINI instead of offering to fix the problems! I will probably also be making the trip to Flow (where I purchased my car) in the near future.

Hendrick Mini just flat out blows, but honestly, all Mini dealers seem fairly shady, I should know, my Mini has been shopped over 20 times in the 6 years I've had it. Worst car (and most expensive) I ever owned. The current tranny problem I have I have been dealing with for 5 yrs, Mini just always told me it was normal. Only know I know it is a bad tranny and always was. Too bad for me I'm now out of warranty.
