OCC is blowing my seals. Or MINIUSA is blowing me?

I found an oil seepage underneath my car so I took it to the dealer to try to get it fixed under warranty. Per the SA:

"Because you have an oil catch can installed, you are bypassing the vacuum system creating pressure in the system which is causing the rear engine seal to leak and is therefore will not be covered under warranty."

WTF? They use any presence of any after market part to try to get out of fixing their screw ups. Two weeks ago they tried not to replace my bad axles because of after market suspension. Give me a break.

The SA could be correct depending on how the OCC is connected. There was a thread on NAM where someone blew open their valve cover because the OCC line got pinched when the bonnet was closed.

Umm, the OCC has been on the car for the past year and a half and about 15k miles. If the seal is leaking that it's because they messed it up while replacing the clutch two weeks ago.

nobody is picking on you but

I have worked at auto dealerships for over 30 years.
this is not what you want to hear but if the leaking seal is caused by excessive internal pressures created by the aftermarket part the warranty could be voided (on any part that is associated with that accessory) ie engine
I have not worked at a bmw dealer but most dealerships are the same,
you see the dealer is bound by an agreement with the manufacturer concerning all warranty repairs. if caused by workmanship or defects it should be repaired, if by outside sources or abuse it is the owners responsibilty. Please if I am wrong let me know

Sorry jinky...

even if it's not the OCC, they can claim it is and duck the coverage. Sad but true, and you wouldn't be the first to have had this happen. Take off the can and go to a different dealer!

While all this is true about the warranty I am wondering how the OCC got blamed for the leak? If I read correctly your OCC is single line? So that means that the other side of the valve cover is still operating through the breather tube. Even if you had it pinched, blocked or for that matter disconnected your PCV you would have had to been building some serious crankcase pressure to cause a leak. Crankcase pressure is at higher RPM levels anyway unless you have bad rings. Even with the OCC you will still get some vapor contaminants from the crankcase and back into the combustion chamber. So that makes them more or less a really nice looking part. If you find out how the PCV works this would all become clear.
There is some free HP if you do your crankcase venting correctly.

Thats your Q Dr.O for the tech explanation
