Worried

I have to say that reading NAM daily has me thinking about selling our 04 MC before it;

Has it's CVT go out
Has it's power steering pump go out
Has a spontaneous engine fire
Has it's strut towers mushroom
Has it's hatch or doors fall off due to bad hinges

On, and on ,and on..........

Taking a serious look at a third party warranty

damned if you do, damned if you don't i suppose...

i'm sure you know that forums such as these tend to catch issues in disproportionate amount, as the happy campers post infrequently and the unhappy ones are garrulous at times...

who wants to read a thread titled "still no problems" ?

i wouldn't based on the 100k miles i've got on my MCS, but i'm running the Getrag not the CVT so who knows...

I have an early 02 MC (92000 miles on it) .It has been the most fun DD I have ever had.(actually its not a DD any more.,. Mazda MX5 is now my DD (not as many smiles per mile as MC unless top is down)). At 48000 miles I asked about an extended warranty. And was told $2000 dollars .I laughed, it would have been the best 2000 I ever spent on a car.

This will help you once you get tired of playing catastrophe du jour with your MC.

So now you wish you had bought an extended warranty ? Would it have paid for itself ?

Set an "if it breaks I'll only spend XXXX" budget for your MINI.

Yes, I have fixed, power steering pump, steering rack, trans leak.things I haven't fixed power door lock @ 500 from dealer, leaky valve cover gasket @200 from dealer. heater won't blow on floor?$ . My favorite gremlin which doesn't really need to be fixed but is strange, sometimes when I remove the key from the ignition, the doors lock and the doors wont unlock unless I push the unlock button on the key or reinsert the key in the ignition. However I still may buy another one, as they have gotten much more reliable from all I have read.More smiles per mile.

Yeah that sounds reasonable.....BUT what do you do with a broken car that you then cannot resell for any decent return.......been there, done that.

I have owned dozens of cars and this is always an issue that has to be considered.

CMT is right.......read the posts on Odyclub.com [Odyssey Owners Forum] and you might never buy a Honda Odyssey, thinking its probably the worst vehicle ever built....but I work here at a Honda Dealer and can say that overall the Odyssey is a very well built, reliable van..that has lots of our owners/customers loyalty..

We're on the same page, my friend. I use to own a Corrado (another car as unique as the MINI). I got a little tired of dropping to my knees after hard runs to check under the car for leaking coolant or oil after an enthusiastic drive. If these were 15 year old Porsche Carreras, I could understand the constant need for primping and pruning. Hopefully we both get things straightened out so we can at least enjoy driving them for a few months before we sell them.

you are gonna see probs on forums. that is what they are for, the good part is if you read tehse probs, sometimes you can have a heads up on things so that when something starts you can get it before it is real bad, or possibly fix something before it breaks, if there is a known safeguard. for example the ps fan, you can get a guard for it.
