Umm... Should I Be Worried?
ok so iv ehad the car for about a month - and 1700 miles - and i noticed yesterday when showing off the car to a lady friend, that part of my hood scoop had turned white. im wondering if this is my hood scoop melting and if anyone else has experienced this before? is this a major issue?
There have been reports of the hood scoop melting due to the insane heat of the turbo after shutdown.
If it starts becoming deformed, it will be replaced by the dealer free of charge... make sure you have some holes in the scoop!

well for some reason mini decided to make the scoop non-functional for the r56...right? why is that? and would it void my warranty if i drilled holes in the actual scoop insert?
What is your build week? Mine is Week 3, so mine is closed off, but somewhere along the line they converted to the open ones. I'm thinking about entirely removing the piece that blocks the scoop, or maybe substituting the decorative "screen" that was mentioned in one of the other threads about this.
If you really want to impress your "lady friends", you should just whip up a quick pasta dish right there on top of your hot bonnet. They will be putty in your hands.

Okay, it's official--you CAN cook on the MCS engine!
We went to a picnic today, and when we got there we reheated our bratwurst on the engine, near the turbo. They were nice and hot after about 15 minutes. True, we'd grilled them the night before, but that was only because we didn't know how they'd do on the 2 1/2 trip before reaching the picnic site. I believe they would have done just fine.
If you want to cook via MINI, make sure you double wrap with heavy duty foil, and crimp the edges thoroughly to keep in juices and/or grease.

hahahha funny you mention cooking on your engine - i couldnt help but think about how my dad and his friends would go camping and cook hot dogs and grilled cheese sandwiches on hot carbs...hahah...the good old days, right?
i spoke to the mini dealership and they said they would have to see the hood scoop to determine the issue...i dont feel like driving 20 miles this week (thanksgiving week) so i guess itll have to wait...oh well....
