R56 Software changes/fixes needed thread
The RDS data is broadcast from the station. It's the stations that are not giving the correct information for the radio to display.
You've got the Nav, so you get CD-Text, but on cars w/o the Nav it doesn't display on the head unit.
I've tried it w/ discs I know have CD-Text (store bought, and burned) and nothing displays on my Navless MCS. See about halfway down this thread.

I get info for MP3 CDs fine. I'm talking about regular audio CDs.
A software pet peeve that no one else has mentioned.
When you open either door, the window opens slightly, so that the doors close without air pressure problems, then the windows slide back up. Nice.
I'd like that same feature for the rear hatch. Crack either (or both) human doors when the hatch is opened, so the damned hatch closes easily without having to be slammed down to accomplish this. How many of us have had to stop after first starting out, to get out and re-close the damned thing? I'm betting .... all of us.

I do like the windows cracking a little...most times. But I wish I could disable it in winter months. Or when i'm washing the car...it gets annoying with water, snow getting in the car more easily when the windows open that crack right away.
I was able to figure out the problem thanks to this Wikipedia site:

Notice that the "Classic Rock" US RDS code matches the "Drama" UK RDS code? That's why the local rock station is showing up as "Drama" on my radio :(

I don't think this has been mentioned but I wish the DRLs would turn off if you use the hand brake. If you have the DRLs set to be on and are waiting outside in the car with it running, at night you can't turn the headlights off! Kinda stupid. I read somewhere where in the pre-56s you could turn the DRLs off by setting the hand brake.
Actually, the station is sending the right RDS data. The Radio in my MINI was mistakenly programmed with the UK RDS codes, though, so it decodes the station categories wrong.

Mine says "Education" for everything. It is retarded.
So to re-cap the latest posts:
1. RDS does work. No changes needed.
2. The windows go down when doors open/close for a physical reason (so they don't get caught on car frame and break).
3. I have never had to "slam my hatch", it closes just fine. ?? I also have never herd anyone complaing about this before either.
4. Display CD Text for regular audio CD's for vehicles without navigation. ADDED!
5. DRL's: Can't turn them off. Ok, you have a point, but that's getting picky. It is easy enough (with Nav anyway) to go to Setup, Lights, and uncheck the DRL box. The lights go out immediately (don't have to leave menu). When you are done "making out with your girlfriend in front of her parents house", just a click of the joystick would turn them right back on.
Ok. MINI, have you implemented any of these changes????

RDS Doesn't work! My dad's caddy displays the local channels as Rock that I listen to just fine, but my Mini displays them as Education...definitely a programming error between EU and US stuff...has to be switched? Possible to have done at the dealer?
Mine works fine (for the few stations that broadcast it properly anyway), so maybe YOURS has a setting wrong somewhere? But it's not a general software problem.
No, the windows don't catch on the door frame. My windows are often frozen shut in the mornings this time of year, and the doors open and close without the window moving.

And it's not the RDS signal that's wrong -- RDS is things like song titles and station name. It's the PTY database that's completely hosed in these stereos. They use European data, but this is North America.
Circumvention: Turn off PTY.
Fix: Buy a newer model year MINI. :( I think, if it were fixable, it already would have been. It's only a guess, but I think the problem is baked right into these stereos and not fixable via a software update at the dealerships. Birdman may just have a newer stereo than the rest of us.

Sport mode and traction control remember their last settings, on or off.
Improve the throttle response in first gear from a dead stop when not in sport mode.
Key Fob, push and hold when locked to unlock and open sunroof and windows.
Key Fob, push and hold when un-locked to lock and close sunroof and windows

Gotcha. But it is used to make a better seal, nothing to do with the airtitness another poster was questioning.
I don't think the windows dip because of air pressure...that's just how they normally seal for water when the door opens or closes. The boot issue may just be a simple adjustmant of the stops...that's all it was on my car and some others I've seen. Twist the rubber stop on each side of the hatch...it's spiral-cut so it can be adjusted. I adjusted mine eight months ago and have not had a problem since. The first gen car was setup the same way and it's boot hatch also required stop adjustment.

Too bad there's not much hope that they're going to do anything.
By the way, the North American PTY codes can be found on page 72 of:
http://books.google.com/books?id=MX0...0Zux0#PPA72,M1
The European table can be found on page 9 of:
http://www.sbsfm.com/download/manuals/fmb10.pdf
And my stereo *definitely* uses the European table.

I'd really like this feature as well. Granted I do it manually without really thinking about it when I'm parallel parking, but often forget to set them back up to the proper position for driving.
