STLMINI Tech/Mod Event – January 17th, 2009
STLMINI Tech/Mod Event – January 17th, 2009
Ever wanted to change your own oil or brake pads? Have a new mod that you want to install but want some help? If so, then this event is for you! Simply put, this tech/mod event will be a group of STLMINI members helping each other with general car maintenance/tech and car mods. It’s a nice informal way to learn more about maintaining your car and to talk shop with other STLMINI members. Mark at Clear Auto Bra LLC has graciously offered his shop to us to host the event, so we’ll stay warm and have a nice place to work!
Here are the event details:
Date: January 17th, 2009
Hours: 9am-3pm
Location: Clear Auto Bra LLC
180 E. Kirkham Ave.
Webster Groves, MO 63119
Donuts for breakfast and pizza for lunch will be provided by Clear Auto Bra, LLC (Thanks Mark!)
Tech details: We’ll need one car volunteer to demo an oil change on. Mark has also offered to do a few stripes/roof graphics/Ultrashield pieces if people have the need. Call Mark to schedule and for rates. Other than that, if you have a suggestion for a tech demo or something you need help with (mod or tech), please e-mail me or post on the NAM thread and I will start a list and create a schedule for demos.
Mark's website is: http://www.ultrashieldofstl.com
Please RSVP on the thread so I have a count of how many will attend for food planning purposes.
Let me know if you have questions. Motor On!

Count me in!
This is a great idea. I have always done my own oil changes, water pumps, thermostats, brakes, the simpler things. This little car is a little intimidating, so I would appreciate it.
As for hood stripes, I may email Mark cause I would like to have mine replaced (little debris damage).
Can't wait!

When Mark did my sport stripes, he put clear bra on the bonnet stripes all the way to the windshield. That will help prevent debris damage.

Wow! That was a very awkward moment; we will be there, well maybe not.....
Hey, the whole blowing the candles out thing, let's not let go of tradition!

PS. If my little bed warmer told me that she wanted to take me to a Mini Cooper event for my B-Day, I would levitate! "I'm just say'n"

Great idea! Can I put you down for bringing your CAI for demo install?

As long as you bring your CAI, all of us that have installed them before will help you do it (and show others at the same time). It's very easy and we've all done them before. It's a help and learn sort of event, so your CAI will be perfect!

We'll be there for sure.
I love working on my MINI. I have new plugs and a new serpentine belt to put on (3-1/2 years and 40k miles on mine). I'll save them for the Tech Day. Does anyone have a belt tensioner tool? Doug-I remember that one time you mentioned that you had one, or could borrow one. Does anyone know, do you have to lift the engine just to replace the belt, or can it be done without?
Time to get down and get dirty!!

I have the tensioner tool and just did my belt. It's very easy and you don't have to jack the engine. Be sure to bring a new belt and order 10-20 wheel well fasteners from MINI; you will break more than half of them removing them. The plugs will be easy too, once your engine cools off. This will be a good project for everyone to see, as it can save you a lot of $! Thanks!
