Vegas Route?

So I have a business trip in 3 weeks to Vegas.

Since my MINI and I have not had a proper Motoring trip I thought it would be a great first experience to really have some fun. I do not have a radar detector.

Any tips on a fun way to go?

Danke.

I did this once when I first got my MINI, and it's awesome if you have the time.

From Hesperia, head out to Adelanto and take old hwy 395 north through Trona and on to Death Valley. From there, keep going into Pahrump and take 160 to I15.

This took me 6 hours (but I stopped...ALOT!). There are some roads that are practically abondoned but still in great shape where one could possibly make better time than that.

Besides, driving through Death Valley this time of year is awesome!

if you plan on speeding...invest in a radar detector/laser detector. Otherwise dont! There are plenty of cops on the way up..trust me. If your caught doing anything over 100 your cars getting impounded. Otherwise then that its a good trip, just hope the wind doesnt pick up because it will sandblast your paint pretty quick. Other than that have fun

Thanks Don!

This is likely the way I will go.

when i came back from Vegas last week after SEMA the 15 South was supposed to be closed for construction, so i planned another way home from the get go. it took just about 6 1/2 hours from the hotel to Huntington Beach, leaving at noon.....not too bad for 410 miles.

had a blast actually, lots of 2 lane, no traffic roads....some fun turns and up/down rolling hwy. couple long stretches play a bit (no radar) while being able to see quite a ways down the hwy. cruise on 90+ for a good chunk of time.

anyhow, i plan on taking my other car that way next time to head out there, so get some good speed runs going. but 10E out to the 62, then the 62 for about 130miles, then it's the 95/58 N and you'll see signs for Vegas.

not saying you should go this way, and some stretches weren't that great, but i had fun. all that drivig alone, and it didn't bother me at all really.

I've gone on some of the roads on the other side of the 15 (starting in 29 Palms) and these roads are much better, as is in the scenery.

Have a great time! Don't forget your camera either. And, besure to stop in Stovepipe Wells for a drink or something. It's the last chance until almost pahrump.

I ended up taking spectacular routes thru Mojave and Death Valley. The roads were curvy, fast, and empty. The scenery was frequently breathtaking.

The MINI proved to be the perfect car: fast, comfortable, and economical. I was most surprised by how little fatigue I felt after all the seat time.

I'll post the route and some lame pictures soon. I also learned what the MINI is not.
