Renting a Mini at LAX or Orange County?

Hey guys,

I'm an Australian Mini owner and I'm wondering if anyone can help me out here. I'll be in Orange couty, CA for about 3 weeks in August. Normally I rent your typical hopeless rentacar but this time I thought I'd try to get a Mini or something else a bit "handley" and find some nice curvey road in CA.

Does anyone have any recommendations on how to do this/where to go? I arrive in LAX but my work and where I'll be staying is in Orange County. Also do you guys have any drivers there?

Cheers,

Adam (From Perth, Western Australia)

Adam,

Welcome to NAM.

There is a Budget Rental Car in Marina Del Rey (just north of LAX) that has MINIs for rental. I have seen several different Cabrios, and a couple of hardtops there. Here's a link for contacting them.

I'm sure there are others in the area, but that's the one that comes to mind right off the top.

DID, that is the one I was going to recommend. I hear good things about them and they always seem to have Minis around and were the first in the area to offer them as I recall.

I rented a manual MCS from Budget in Marina del Rey for a couple days when deciding whether to buy my own. It was not cheap - $100/day + $0.50/mile over 50 miles/day. In LA it is very easy to put lots of miles on a rental car.

So, go for it but beware of the mileage charges!

HMMM... $100/day + mileage. Ouch. But hey, pretty good to have the option and it's great they have a manual.

I rented a PS/Blk MC from them (Budget Marina)--had it reserved 2 weeks in advance for Valentines Day. I called the same week and the day before to confirm, and they said it would be there. I showed up, and the car was no where to be found. They shrugged and said, sorry, if the previous renter wants to keep the car longer beyond the date they are supposed to bring it, too bad, they won't argue more cash. Pissed the heck out of me.

After much arguing, I was able to rent it a few weeks later for a longer period, but it really sucked how they handled it.

Hey Randy,

There is a duplicate/parallel thread to this:

I posted that a friend of mine was quoted $200/day for that MCS Cabrio from Budget Marina.

Midway rents MCS Convertibles for $150.00 a day. They have a location at LAX and one in Beverly Hills.

I rented from them about two weeks ago. They have a few manual transmissions in stock.
