Visitor to Orange County - Recommended drives?

Hey guys,

Thought I'd ask you guys for some advice.I'll be coming to Orange County as part of work (I'm writing to you right now from Perth, Western Australia) and I'm thinking of burning up some of my spare time with a bit of driving.

I'm trying to rent out a Mini but it's looking expensive (I think my budget is $50/day) but regardless, can anyone recommend some drives? I work near errm... Triangle Plaza or Triangle Shopping Centre? Monrovia Ave I think if that makes any sense to anyone

You might be referring to Triangle Square in Costa Mesa. If so, I would take Newport Blvd. south a few miles to Pacific Coast Highway (PCH). At this point, you can either go straight 1 mile to Newport Beach and take a small ferry ride to Balboa Island, you can go left on PCH and go 6 miles or so to Laguna Beach, or you can go right 3 miles on PCH to Huntington Beach. A little past Huntington Beach and a few small detours (left on 2nd, left on Ocean) and you are in Long Beach. If you also like classic Minis, check out Heritage Garage in Costa Mesa, right around the corner from you: www.heritagegarage.com They always have at least ten Minis outside and sell magazines and stuff inside. If you are going to be around on the 20th of this month, you are invited to go to the Mini Owners of America, Los Angeles (MOALA) meeting at 7pm in Long Beach. This is the oldest Mini club in the USA and one of the oldest in the world (it's been around longer than me and I'm going to be cellibrating my 40th soon). www.moala.org

If you want a tour guide, contact me.

Anywhere in the Angeles National Forest is a perfect Drive. Start in West Covina and follow it all the way through!

Rick is right, you probably refering to the Triangle Square, where Harbor Blvd/New Port Blvd/19th Street form a triangle business shopping center. But that's not all that, there are plenty other places near/around there for you to "motoring" to. I'm pretty sure Rick will be a good tour guide if you contact him.

As far as the drive/drives to burn up your spare time ... umm ... how 'bout going out to the desert, it's sizzling out there alrite My favorites are the PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) & Hwy 101, cool ocean breeze & beautiful beaches ... motor on mate!

P.S. And the freeways ... ooh ... the freeways

Renting a MINI in LA isn't cheap. I believe the day rates for an MC is around $90-$100/day. An MCS is even more. A friend of mine got quoted about $200/day for an MCS Cabriolet.

What dates are you going to be here? We might be able to arrange a group outing with my MINI club (http://c3club.org)

Hey guys,

Thanks for all the suggestions. Unfortunately work has me going through the weekend so I can't meet up :( Renting a Mini is just hell! So I'm stuck with this Focus for the time being :(

I'll definitely take the drive up the PCH though, preferably during a quiet time in the day.

Thanks again!
