I Love Sea Level (Dave makes it to L.A.)
we need to find a place to live first. Anyone have a guest house in West L.A. / Santa Monica they'd like to rent to a fellow MINI owner? I'm mechanical and could help out around the car.

You must be the poster formerly known as DaveinDenver right?
Welcome to the land of nuts and fruits!
Hurry up and register to vote so you can participate in the Davis recall election! Angelyne, Gary Coleman and Larry Flynt are among the candidates!!
How's the job search going?

Dave,
Well if push comes to shove, I've got a spare room in the garage that you are more than welcome to use. I say that because it's in Lake Elsinore, and that's a bit of a drive to anywhere you will probably be getting work, not to mention to school.
But, if you get in a bind, let me know.

Dave,
You still looking? Just got this from a co-worker:
There is a 2 bedroom garage-top house (2br/1ba?) for rent where I live. It's
about 30 walking-secs from the DD commercial/New media building and rents
about ~$1750 a month - garage included.
The building he is referring to is where I work, 3 blocks from Venice Beach.

Welcome, Dave! I bet there are more MINIs in SoCal than anywhere else in the USA, so you'll find plenty of other motorers. When you visit San Diego, let us know - we'll plan sumthin'. We'll see you at a run soon, I'm sure.

Hey Dave, Welcome to the land of the Smogberry trees!
No other place like it, wouldn't want to live anywhere else (and I've tried!!)
Lots of good twisties to be found around here and PCH is just a nice cruise.
Motor on!!

>>>I love sea level! ! ! My MINI with the seats folded down and fully loaded to the roof is faster at sea level than it is unloaded at 5280 ft in Denver.<<<
Glad you made the move okay and hope you can set up some housing quickly. I'm close to sealevel (about 500 ft.), but on the other side of the country. In running some of the mountains around the state here, I've found my MCS seems to like the air up around 2 to 3 thousand ft. a lot better. Less humidity and a bit thinner, maybe? All I know is that it really screams with a little bit more altitude than what I normally drive in. I guess Denver's a bit too high.

If you are a little bit adventurous, there are lofts for lease in the downtown LA area. All of them have garages for your MINI. Where I work near skid row (yes skid row), in 4th and Main (www.laloft.com) there are several residents with MINIs! Also try http://www.flowerstreetlofts.com and http://www.littletokyolofts.com. Spaces range from 800 to 2200 sqft!

Hey Dave and Calvin, give us updates! How goes the job hunt? Are you still likin' the So Cal area?
Since a lot of aerospace companies are south of LA, you may want to look for apts and houses for rent in Lakewood or possible Long Beach or Hermosa/Redondo. I think you'd get a garage easier that way.
I love to visit LA but I'd never actually LIVE there.

For now I'm going to be contracting back to Boeing in El Segundo before eventually going to work for Raytheon.
Before work starts though, we'll be taking the MINI on a trip up HWY 1 to SLO and Pismo Beach later this week.
