Well, there's no arguing with a mods, since you have all the power. But your accusations are false, it's written in plain english what I have or have not said in this thread as you claim. So I'll just go the other way. Way to go mod, you are doing a super job!

Good choice!!!
Don't worry, the community speaks for itself, no matter what planet each individual lives on!

Not every case of moderator editing is one of controlling content. In some cases a post gets edited to make it more readable (this happens if someone does a copy/paste into their post and extraneous info from the paste makes the resulting post contain bad formatting or layout, for example). I doubt highly that mbabischkin or any other mod for that matter will edit the content of such a post to alter the data or other 'meaningful' info, but is within his duties to adjust a post to fit within the site guidelines. Also, some people even though they have the tools to edit a post they make, will instead ask a mod to fix something they cannot figure out.

What should be done in such cases is that every instance of moderator or non-post owner editing a reason should be given for the edit. In this case, there is no reason given, and that can make people wonder what is going on and if everything is on the up-and-up.

Edit: The post I am referring to in my post vanished while I was writing.

::clearing throat::

all I'll say is this and if your not sure where this came form you have some reading to do......................

"This is a community of new MINI enthusiasts. The goal of the community is to enhance the ownership of your MINI through the exchange of information. We encourage your participation and request that you respect your fellow enthusiasts in the same manner that you wish to be respected. If, when writing, you think that someone may incorrectly interpret your meaning as being offensive, please use the emotion icons to better express your thoughts.

Respect is Key
The North American Motoring community is a place where you can express yourself...as long as you treat your fellow enthusiasts with respect.

Welcome New Visitors and Members
To grow our community, we enthusiastically welcome new visitors and members. There are many among our membership that have years of experience and a passion for the new MINI that is infectious. Help new members learn what our community offers, how to locate information, and how to contribute in a manner that is beneficial to all.

No Personal Attacks
Personal attacks will not be tolerated. We encourage and support spirited discussions as long as they are conducted in a respectful and thoughtful manner.

Clean Posting
North American Motoring will not tolerate explicit, obscene or vulgar language and will remove any post containing this type of language. Similarly, any post that solicits or offers explicit, X-rated, or similar content will be deleted without notice. Additionally, bombing the forums with pointless posts is not permitted.

I think this thread already broke two of these, the moderators are just trying to do their job, if you have a problem with them I don't think you need to let the whole forum know which one annoyed you.
Liz

I do have to say that (seriously) I respect a Moderator who gets on here and says exactly what most of us are thinking about a certain user. I don't think that's a personal attack.

Back on topic: I have learned from this thread that some of the assumptions us users may have made about NAM, were not based on facts... but were based on what appeared to be the case. I trust the site feedback given in this thread, helps the NAMsters to stay in touch with there audience.

There is a difference between Moderators of certain forums and Core Moderators.

I do my best to help keep things flowing, and I mostly move threads to the correct forums when, for example, a new thread with a non-MINI topic is posted in MINI Talk, I move it either to Off Topic or to Off Topic :: Autos, if it is a discussion about other marques.

If I see things getting heated, I will post the relevant Site Guidelines as a reminder to encourage everyone to keep their cool. I also utilize the PM function to discuss problems privately. It is not my intention to embarrass or punish any members of NAM.

Anybody having a problem with another member or a topic, please feel free to PM me about it and I will try to handle it to the best of my ability, or pass it on to DiD or mferguson, when it is something I feel unqualified to handle.

I hope this helps.

My vote has always gone to Clo. For what, you say?

Why, the fairest of them all, of course.

clover rules! You go girl! I still say that a brief explanation for removed or mod-edited posts would go a long way to defusing the feeling that we all live under BIG BROTHER"S rule. As long as threads such as these continue to thrive on this site, I don't think that we'll have to worry about threads about why NAM is so boring.

In the Camera/Video forum that I moderate, I don't actually make changes to posts. If someone makes a complaint about a post, such as the one I mentioned previously, then I will report that to the Admins who have ultimate say in any situation, and really that's how they prefer it to be handled. While I MAY have the physical power to modify or delete a post, I'm really not expected to do so by the Admins since I'm just there to keep the peace and that's cool with me.

I tell ya why some folk find NAM boring

Ya can't cuss
Ya can't be rude

You can, on the other hand, have fun, trying to get your point across, help other members in time of need.

Nice smilies! I noticed that you have better ones than we have. I especially like the beer drinkers. You could use the last ones after using too many of the drinkers. At least they're not boring.

We need a list of prohibited words, and rude depends on where you live. Most Califorinians I know think New Yorkers are rude, but it's just the way they express themselves. I believe, unless a member is attacking another member (which I've seen), or blatantly swearing unpleasentness, the moderators should leave well enough alone. IMHO.

Very clever, Steve...that suggestion of a list of prohibited words!

This is not an adult-only site. There are young people under 18 who are members and many families are members.

There are certainly many clever ways of expressing one's opinions without having to resort to profanity.

Maybe it would help if we looked at getting our points across to others, without disrespect, as a challenge. Frankly, its harder to write that way. Challenging you could say!

Pfft. If those fokkers cant take a joke, let 'em eat shittake mushrooms. People should be able to come in here and show off their titmice or their assumptions. If people get pistons, then they can go to Helsinki. It's a free country.
