i think it's just remarkably sad how this site has gone to the dogs. when i first joined up, the site was entertaining and i didn't notice too much oppressive moderation. however, once the Battle of Off Topic:Political began, the moderation went way outta hand. was trippy's little cartoon outta hand, absolutely, but going and clearing out the entire form because there was some serious bickering going on was ridiculous. the fact that we are allowed to argue, complain, and generally just disagree about our political views is one of the things that makes our country great. as far as i'm concerned, all of our heavy handed pro-censorship moderators can go to china, cuba, iran, or n. korea if they can't tolerate a little bickering among common enthusiasts. when i go onto other forums, namely VWVortex, i'm amazed how fun and laid back the atmosphere is. very little moderation, but a whole lot of fun. no bodies overly sensitive or whiny about opinions they don't like, and disagreeing with those who administer the site won't result in banning. and now, since my little critiscism is gonna get me in some trouble, i'll say good bye to NAM, and i'll see you all on MINI2. but don't worry, i'll pop in every once in a while and see if i can "post in a more productive manner"

Visiting from the dark side...

Interesting discussion.

No forum is perfect for everyone. NAM has some good points but so do all of the other sites. I hope you get your problems here sorted, I would hate to see a good community stay in such disarray.

Good luck Mark, best wishes to you.

Now, now. Is that a MINI way to talk? I also joined both at the same time, and visit and post here far more often, but no need to be perjorative to other MINI folks.

Oh i'm sure the MINI folk there are decent. I was actually referring to their black background and white font - especially hard on the eyes. That "place" sucks. Cant go there.

btw, kind of off topic.. but mini2 was a private spinoff because bmw shut down classicmini.com . Now THAT was a great site.

Actually, MINI2 has a white option that I find much like this site visually. I hang around a lot of MINI sites, and see a lot different attitudes, but overall MINI sites are fairly laid-back and receptive. As for boring, a website is what you make it, so figure out what the limits are and go for it. ALL the MINI sites have guidelines, MINI2 included, and as it is also a commercial enterprise, it also has a stake in keeping regulars happy, both vendors and customers. It shouldn't take too much hinting from a Mod to realize you're close to the line. I've read some posts that have serious attitude problems, on all the MINI sites, and I figure the site owners will find ways to eliminate that kind of stuff, whether you feel it's justified or not. They're drivin', so they get to choose the radio station and volume. ;-)

I never have posted very much, even tho I've been around a while, but that doesn't lessen my interest in MINIs, or MINI websites. I like NAM for what it is, a MINI-centric place that is different from others, but I can't really make value judgements for whose site is better - each has it's own quirks and offerings. I don't need the attitude posts anywhere, but I'm a patient guy - if you sit by the river long enough, the bodies of your enemies will float past.

It's me...

I know more, and less is new.
I understand more of the challenges, and the cost barriers in thier conquest, so the boudaries are more well defined.
My patience wanes for explaining the interesting AGAIN, due to fear of the search function....
I read and read more and more, and learn less and less, because of the everevolving increase in volume of posts that are basic, from very new owners.
The total amount of newness is a lessening percentage of total contributions...
I've never been a believer that a group organized about one enthusiasm automatically implies allignement in other areas (ie all the Mini and Mac computer threads), so I don't look to my Mini friends for political discourse, or parenting guidance. I'm here for the car, making it go faster, and corner better.

So that's why I think it's me..... I'm sure to the new car owners or new members, like Shortbus, this is a whole new world that is a wonder to explore, but if her wish been true (that she'd known about NAM when she first got her car), then maybe a bit more of the tarnish would be present....

That's evolution!

But I'll be hoping to mix it up a bit in a couple of months......

Boring?

I have had no problems with my windows rolling up and down, I try and help those that do.
My dog has a problem, and folks offer help and well wishes.
Someone asks about hauling kids around in a MINI. Lots of folks give advice.
A bird pooped on my car,HELP! Many step up with ways to deal with it.
I pulled the head off my engine, now what? Somebody will help you out.
How do you put air in the tires? One of us will figure it out.
I park like this. Well guess what, lots of folks are going to have something to say about it.
It's to hot, it's to rainy, it's to windy, I don't like snow. Well get over it, or move.

I find non of this BORING. I like to think of it as getting to know more about MINIs, and the folks that own them. That I find interesting

I think some of the problems may be boring because they have been around along time and, if you look for the answers, they are there to be found. I am always looking for new and interesting problems so I can store them away in the back of my mind in case I have need of an answer. One thing that is definitely not boring are the people here. There is usually something new and interesting said that will wake you out of your -dare I say it - boredom and cause some sort of discussion or controversy. So bore on, everybody.
