When I joined in early 2003 after receiving my car I spent a great deal of time reading and learning about many aspects of the Mini. After awhile I found I was really spending way too much time on the site and that I had learned everything I was interested in at that time. Each visit to NAM was producing less and less satisfaction. Part of the decrease in satisfaction had to do with having obtained all the info I needed and part had to do with some of the rediculousness of the posts that seemed to be increasing such as that law student from California. So I went cold turkey and stopped viewing completely for almost a year with only a very rare log in.
I find myself now viewing more oftern than a year ago but my choice of threads has become more descerning. It's like anything else the more time you spend with it the less intriguing it can be so choose your interaction wisely. You know there is only so much money you can spend on tweaking your car, after awhile it does become a used car and maintenance is the number one priority unless you are thinking of selling it and looking into something else.
On another note, the site is really made up of its members, if the site is that boring we only have to look at ourselves for the quality of the content don't blame the owner for that. What's that saying:
"you can leed a horse to water but you can't make him drink"

I used to be a NAM junky a few months ago. For example, my job takes me to many different countries and I would find myself actively seeking a hotel with high speed Internet (free of course) so that I could get the latest gossip (that's right, keeping it real!). Now those who play the devil's advocate (pun intended) are gone from NAM, so there's at least one less reason to visit.
I would also search for various tweaks and mods for my MINI, and now I know what route to go (19% GIAC). Thanks to NAM for the resources it has.
One last thing about censorship, I HATE it. I don't care for anybody deciding what material I can or cannot read. I am a intelligent (don't ask my wife for her opinion about me
) and can decide what content has merit or not.

Man, crap like this really gets my shorts in a bunch.
I know I'm pouring gasoline on this fire, but geezzz you guys. Mark works his butt off to maintain this site, he owns it, it is his call what happens here, period.
Mark Twain said:"Those who are bored are frequently boring". I suggest you get off yer keisters, quitcher whining, and work out your boredom somewhere else.
Go ahead...flame me, for it seems that's the answer to boredom these days.

Part of the issue here at NAM is that there haven't been that many new products released to ignite debate. It's been pretty quiet at M7 and Alta as far as new items, so that tends to slow down discussion.
A person can only read/make so many posts on, "Which Way Does Your Key Face?"
Come on, vendors...where's the goodies?

Honestly I find both this site and my evo site boring, as I am afraid to post most of what I would normally say (even in real life
) as it might get me banned. It's the internet for gosh sake, free speech should run rampant, but it seems the thought police are taking over. When someone says something you don't like, ignore it.
Innovation is what drives me to sites like these, and it seems that innovation is taking a break for a while. I actually get really excited when a vendor posts something new (even vaporware) and wish there were more being posted.

I personally think NAM is great. Yes I haven't been here from the beginging and nor have I ever seen the way it was, but only the the way it is now. NAM can fit into your life and your mini's life anyway you want it if you let it. I'm not on this site everyday, sometiems I'm not one it once a week but I'm here when I have something to share or need help with something. The one thing that worries me is that by adding all there great forums you have listed here to go check out you setting them up to become exactly what you hate about NAM. The bigger they get they too many soon need sponsorship and have to break down and set harder rules. You'll get more people and possibly less techie people.... isn't that what your trying to avoid?

these are just a small list of great forums that are a lot of fun, informative, and seem to be a bit more relaxed. There are lots of options out there...and they seem to be gaining a lot of popularity within small crowds.
money and politics do weird things...sometimes with disappointing outcomes

hmmm yes he can run it whatever way he wants....but as his "customers" we are allowed to tell him what whe think of it...in the FEEDBACK forum
There is nothing wrong with NAM at all. I can see where the original poster is coming from though... it has been pretty quiet here as of late, but it's just a quiet period, thats all, happens to every forum.
We cant really criticize anything about this forum because it is what it is. Plus, it's free for us to use, which is the important thing. Alot of money is being spent on this site just so people like us can come here and play.
