manual shift boot and trim get warmer

manual shift boot and trim get warmer

today while i was driving and realized that shift boot and side trim was getting warm. it's not hot but warm. i think heats coming from bottom or transmission?

any guess or advises?

The exhaust is below the boot. Transmission is mounted transversely in most front wheel drive cars!

Could be a bad heat shield, or insulating shifter housing pad, but I doubt it. It's probably just cold enough to notice it right now.

Is this a heat shield you are talking about? If so, My car doesn’t have it. Maybe that’s why?

The heat shield is like a heavy gauge aluminum foil that is somewhat flexible.

Does the car have a short shifter installed? You need to remove the bottom of the shift box to install a short shifter, so more heat felt in the shifter area is normal with a short shifter.

It’s actually stock shifter.

Make sure they did not remove the insulation like above, you should see it right above the center exhaust pipe.
