Strut/shock top hat question

Are the OEM Sport springs soft enough that they can be compressed by hand enough to start the strut/shock top hat nut without needing a spring compressor? I'd have to go borrow my friend's or rent one if not. I know some cars can get away with it and some cannot.

Don't know if anyone has done it by hand. If it is possible, you'd need two people.

I HAD to use a spring compressor. I rented it for free at an auto parts store. Most of them have the "buy it and return it" free rental programs.

The rears are doable but the fronts probably aren't. +1 on the borrow from Autozone tip.

If you can compress your springs by hand you need to replace them.

Thanks for the replies everyone... I found time to get to my friends house to pick up his spring compressor. I'll be doing the job this weekend.

What springs are you putting on? Or are you swapping to Koni's?
