To rebuild an N14 or buy a shortblock

This is a long term project. I am burning too much oil. My question for anyone who knows is does a re-frub'd shortblock from Mini come with better internals than my 2007 N14? Would I be taking on an impossible project to simply rebuild my current engine from top to bottom with better pistons, rods and upgraded valve train incl porting the head.

Who has any experience with this project. I am building a spreadsheet and gathering experiences and resources.

Thanks DR

I would rebuild with forged internals.

Just buy a N14B16c out of a JCW. Mini of Kennesa sells them remanned for $5k. Less time and pain.

WMW sells engines.

Here you have to call for current JCW price.

This has the Cooper S priced just under 4k.

Either way its going to be easier and less expensive than rebuilding. That being said these are more replacement and not upgraded for more expreme performance.

It all depends on what your end goal is and how much you're willing to spend.

I always wanted to go with forged internals and when it came time to being able to afford it, I pulled the trigger. There was nothing really wrong with the current motor, but I have been wanting to do it for some time. Buying a new engine will be much easier. It really depends on what you're wanting in the long run. Here is a thread on NAM about engine replacement and what to replace while you're in there. Also, ran across this engine rebuild thread here.
