Tires: Wider or Shorter?
We started autocrossing using our track setup, Bridgestone RE-11s in 205/55-16. I'm thinking the extra gearing in the tall tires is not good for autocross (it did help at the track), so I'm thinking about a different size when we replace the tires.
We're probably going to go with the RE-11s again when we do get new tires, they come in 205/45-16 with is 6.5% shorter however they also come in 225/50-16, which is pretty much the same diameter as 205/55.
Can you actually fit 225 width tires on a MINI? I've seen post where people do, does it cause any problems?
Which is better for autocross? A shorter tire in 205 or a wider tire in 225.

The national results for this year say the STF MINI in 2nd and 6th were running Toyo, the one in 4th was on Hankooks.
In RTF, the 1st placed Cooper was on Dunlops. He's a local, he ran in our indexed class (not the street tire class) last year. I'll make sure to check his setup if he turns up next year.
