R56/R57 tire ideas

Fitting tires on wheels is not an issue for me...but on the car...that's the question I have.

I've NEVER tried anything but a 205 on a Mini.

What about the following:

225/50-16 front or rear
225/45-16 front or rear
245/45-16 Front only

Has anyone test fitted any of those?

I do believe the 225/45 is a pretty popular choice

good luck on the 245...

you are running OEM suspension and rims?

Its an H stock car. 2011 to be exact.

Nearly every HS car I've seen is on the 205/45-16 A6 or the 215/40-16 V710.

I've seen cooper S' on 225/40-17s but no HS cars on bigger

it might be worth looking at the choices made by the H stock national champions running the Mini...

here's a thread for example: http://www.sccaforums.com/forums/for...02/scope/posts

In the stock category you can only use wheels of the same size as fitted at the factory. Those are 15x5.5 and 16x6.5 for the non-S. When you stuff a wide tire on a narrow wheel the tread bows and you get a horrible contact patch.

I'm well aware of contact patch...there are a LOT of stock class cars who run wider tires on skinny wheels and it works just fine. Miatas and Integra Type R's run 225s and 275s on 6" wheels, SRT neons and the old neons run 225s on 6" wheels. Old CRX guys ran 225s on 5" wheels. Lots of folks run 285s on 7.5-9" wheels.

So my point is it can work in some instances...the issues on the R50/R53 (I believe I was told back in the day) were that the taller tire hurt gearing too much and actually rubbed.

I helped setup the 2005-6 national champ R50 Mini...as in I did all the prep on it. Co-drove it some. So I'm just trying to find out if anyone has ventured outside the comfort zone in HS or DS even (on 16s) and run something besides the 205 A6 and 215 V710 on the 16" wheels.

The 5.5" 15s seem like a waste of time. 1/2" I could see it being worth trying...but I won't give up 1" of wheel to run 15s.

So I'm just asking if anyone has actually tried the sizes I listed in the original post on an HS mini R56 or R57 or whatever it's called ...hell or even and R50/R53 LOL

I hope I'm not coming off rude...I'm just trying to learn about the new body mini... :(

not rude at all David - obviously I seriously underestimated the depth of your experience.

hopefully someone will chime in that has tried the dimensions in your original post.

Jumping in a Mini became a lot easier with Mark Chiles and Jeff Jacobs paving the way to be perfectly honest. One of the most fun events I've driven in to this day was still that tour in Ft Myers.
