"I Got The Itch Ride" - Thursday July 22nd

This is a last minute ride we will put on for Justin Lewis from Oklahoma who will be visiting Colorado. The ride will likely start Thursday morning and depart from Colorado Springs. Tentatively, we plan to drive the back way up Hwy 24 to Breckenridge and hopefully pay a visit to Loveland pass.

Hopefully a few of you can play hooky.

Watch this thread for more details. Also, PM me to RSVP.

Sean

Ride Sheet

1. 9:00 AM - Meet at the Shops at Briargate. Take the Briargate exit off of
I-25 on the North end of the Springs. Stay on Briargate through the
stoplight. You will need to be in the right hand lane to turn into the Shops.
2. 9: 15 AM - Leave from the Shops and go south on I-25 to the Cimmaron
Street/Hwy 24 Exit. Turn left at the bottom of the exit ramp. Continue
down Cimmaron and turn right on 21st street and then left on Colorado to
make a jog through Old Colorado City. This would take us right through
Manitou Springs, then back on to Hwy 24.
3. Continue on highway 24 through the usual towns of Woodland Park,
Divide etc.
4. Stop at the scenic overlook at the opening of Wilkerson Pass for photos.
5. Continue through Wilkerson Pass on Hwy 24.
6. Go through Hartsel, then go North on Hwy 9 through Fairplay to Breckenridge for lunch
7. After lunch continue on Hwy 9 to Frisco.
8. In Frisco, take the Dillon Dam Road East toward Dillon (turn right at the stoplight by the Holiday Inn)
9. Continue through Dillon to Keystone (optional stop)
10. Travel on upward to A-Basin and then over Loveland Pass
11. At the bottom of Loveland Pass, take I-70 back to Denver
12. Those returning to Colorado Springs, take C-470 to I-25 and then home

Hope a few of you can play hooky and come out to show Justin a good time Colorado style.

Jen and I would like to thank you both, Jonathan and Sean for taking us on some of Colorado's finest roads and spending the day with us. Again Thank you

I have a ton of photos from the trip. Here are just a few.

I had a blast also. I think my Dad had fun also even though he thought we were going to fly off the side of the mountain. Great pics I hope to have mine posted in the near future.

Yeah Jen was feaking out around Loveland pass. I wanted her to video it but she couldn't because she was scared we would fly off the mountain. Guess ill have to get me a little cam to do it for me next time. Jen thought the trip was one of the best moments for her during our vacation because the drive was just awsome.

BTW when you two tore off down real fast and left me i looked back and there was some motorcycles (croch rockets) behind me trying to go fast through the curves and they couldnt hang with me i would leave them in the corners and they would catch up with me in the straights. IT WAS A BLAST. I highly recomend that drive to anyone that has a need for some curves.

Thanks for the comments. We enjoyed the ride too...

and we appreciate your making the initial contact that got us to go and enjoy a fun, mid-week ride. This just reinforces the notion (found all over NAM) that MINI owners can go, drive, and share without having to have a whole lot in common. That it can happen this easily and result in pleasure for all is testament to the fact that Motoring is, in fact, therapeutic.

Please let others know that out here in Colorado we have a beautiful, twisty, curvy, windy and hilly part of the country that we are willing to share. Should anyone else be visiting in our area, please contact us at www.MINI5280.org or on this site and we are glad to set up a ride for you.

Thanks again for your pics..with your permission, can Sean reproduce them in our site? Enjoyed the ride. Regards to Jen...

Jonathan

Hi Ho Silver

PS: And don't forget my invite to do Loveland pass, in the snow, in the dark. Talk about white knuckles....

Yeah, Sean you can do what ever with the photos.

I think we might have to take you up on your offer sometime. In the dark sounds kinda scary in a way but im sure at 3mph it will be just fine HAHAHAHA.

Yeah, I saw them back there and I said to my dad. I bet the guys on the crotch rockets are saying "Dude, lets try to keep up with the MINI's."

Next Trip? Drive Pike's Peak...

If you really want a thrill, this is it unless there is traffic. And, it is fun coming down too...all brakes.

Only downside...it is real hard on the cars. Better to be driving a rental....so keep it in mind.
