I replied to your other post as well.

If you want to race, you have to gut the car, put in safety equipment and dedicate it to the track.

If you want to be a race car driver, go the skippy. Most of us do not have the talent.

If you want to just drive HPDE on the track, all you need is some brake pads to start with.

All you need is a helmet up to current specs and $$ to burn. You should do a thorough tech inspection on your car before heading out to the track. Consider upgrading your brake fluid, especially if it hasn't been changed in a while. The first few times out on the track, you will be training your eyes, learning how to smoothly drive the racing line. If you get bitten hard by the track bug, you will find yourself spending inordinate amounts of dollars upgrading power, suspension, brakes, tires, etc. The most important upgrade, however, involves the 'nut behind the wheel', and that is accomplished through seat time on the track with a good instructor. Have fun and be safe.

I have to say, VV and I have been truly bitten by this track bug, along with s-driver, claymore and eddie.

I had to go back to work to support my habit.

I am done this year. Still trying to sort out my cv issues and replace those coils.

Looks like op got a coach?? who suggested he needs nothing to track the car. I am fine with that as long as I am not in the car with him.

I'd recommend a harnessbar for sure. It makes such a huge different being strapped in with a harness. Kappasphere made a great one called the monkeyBAR. Fully-bolt in, no mods . I think they're blowing them out for $200 or something

If you race, you need a cage. Monkeybar would not be enough. HPDE is fine. I am thinking of a roll bar (not cage) to keep some room for my junk.

Going wheel-to-wheel you definitely want a full cage. That's such a small percent of people taking their car to the track tho. Especially with the Mini, where it's most people's only car and they need to remain somewhat streetable. My monkeybar comes out in like 30 min.
