They're not THAT hard to fly. I have some sim time in Helo's, as well as over 1500 hours of sim time in planes (All sorts) and about 55 hours of actual time in a small plane. The hardest part with choppers is getting the tail rotor input right. I guess you just develop a feel for it over time, but yes, the fancy footwork no doubt helps .
Sim time and something that can crash is a bit different..... I hold a ticket and flew a 201.....
So can someone answer the following based on those points...
what the exact path was, paying close attention to the path through the skip pad area as from an aerial view it appears to be just a wide open paved area.
The skid pad was wide open, just like it shows, you could drive it however you wanted.
Here is an in car video from that day thanks to goaljnky
Hah, that's my video, as in hosted from my account. I posted that a while ago. Yes, the ariel atom driver sucked. IIRC they ran were running ~1:32, maybe a little slower. Danny was on street tires in that video.
It's true, you're a bit more ballsy when you can't die, but still, sim time helps a lot . 201 as in a Bell 201? Those things are ANCIENT!
wrong ticket.... Mooney 201... I have a sim (now dismantled) I used it mostly for NAV work..... I found landing the real thing much easier than the sim and that the sim was about unusable for actual flight characteristics but my sim is probably 12-13 years old.... I am told that the newest MS product is really pretty good.... back to topic....
Great time by all and superb driving by Sean Patrick Flanery
Sean was running 1:28s in the RMW equipped car with tune running the fastest ever times in a Mini (drove it there and drove it home not a race car)
Sean had clocked 1:27s in the first with better tires. Some of us got to ride around the track as passengers and it was simply amazing.
SPF is one cool dude and always helpful, we really took advantage of his yrs of experience at the track as it really shortens your learning curve.
Having raced bicycles at the highest level you can learn so much from watching how pros do certain things. Sean is a very giving person and we are much appreciative!
the slow one has the 2.0L kit I think....it was mentioned way back in this thread. the faster car had basic bolt-ons, but an above average driver (not Jan t3h n00b )
