2 RMW equipped cars break the magical 1:30 barrier at Streets of Willow

Great turn out at the event, I believe 11 Mini's representing!
One lone R56.... thanks Tim for coming out!

Great time by all and superb driving by Sean Patrick Flanery

Sean was running 1:28s in the RMW equipped car with tune running the fastest ever times in a Mini (drove it there and drove it home not a race car)
Sean had clocked 1:27s in the first with better tires. Some of us got to ride around the track as passengers and it was simply amazing.

I clocked my best in my GP today of 1:29 grabbing my goal of going sub 1:30
I guess it doesn't hurt to have 255whp and 210 ft lbs of torque
(wonder what Sean could do with this? )

It was great seeing many different car owners running over to the paddocks to check out the FASTEST Mini's they have seen on a track.

I know an Lotus Elise owner who said he had it to the floor when I went by him on the straight away. Took one look at the car and said... " I know it looks stock.... but that car AINT stock!!"

Again, we are looking for others to show us what you can do.... Dec 14th is coming.....

Very cool. I know a few people wondered about my car at Mid-Ohio. "Sounds different and runs strong" were a few quotes. Have to get you out East next year for Oktoberfest at Watkins Glen when our local BMW-CCA holds the event. Maybe Eric from Helix can hook you up with a car or you could use mine. I'll need some kind of compensation but I know we could work that out. Continued good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Those "economy cars" acquitted themselves well! You still need more power to catch that Focus and the Evo on the straight!

I've got some DV of the last section of the track that I will post soon, that features the two DPs. Stills will take longer since they were taken the old fashioned way.

Mr. Flannery is one smooth driver.

Only bummer of the day was Danny's car breaking. I hope he made the correct diagnosis and gets it fixed soon.

Paul...
thanks again for coming out and spending the day with us
I have a few things coming that will close the gap on the cars...
Sean's time were better than the Focus as he beat him badly through the corners. Should be fun in Dec

thanks Larry,

I want to sit down with Sean and see what his sched is like so we can go after some track records on the east coast. Sean's one of the most down to earth guys and one hell of a driver
If you have a list of events we are really looking forward to coming out.

I've run at Willow Springs a few days this year (and many in the past) but have never been on the school track in a car. Glad you guys are getting out there and enjoying your cars.

With what sanctioning body, class, and track do you or Sean currently hold records with?
Breifly, what are the tire, weight, and safety rules?

Don, why the drama? I was there. The cars ran what they ran.

it's quite simple.... Don and his RACE cars can't run what our street cars do...

what are they going to do when I bring my RACE car to the track?

Nothing, they'll deny that it happened, like they do every time we do something they can't .

Just because it is a school day, doesn't make the time different. It was done with transponders. I would think it would be hard to get a good time on a school track since the other drivers that are on the track are not professionals and passing is only allowed on the straights. So what was your time there?

You mention you broke a record I was just curious which one you were referring too. What record specifically was broken? Which class were you running and what sanctioning body was in charge of the event. I've been running most of the tracks in this area for quite awhile and was not aware of a " Magical ' barrier at the streets. As they are constantly changing the layout , direction and composition of the streets course there are really not a lot of comparisons between times which is why the big track is the standard bearer in the So Cal area. Tell us what times you put down there and everyone will have some idea of what is really going on.

This is going to be fun reading. Could it be the precursor to a MINI tuner track challenge? Bring your best car and driver, and let's see who can run the best lap. At the very least, this could cement in the minds of MINI owners which outfits make parts that actually improve the performance of the car on the track, and which are more street/style oriented.

RMW originally stated that they broke "barriers" and then made mention of breaking records on the east coast. The point? The cars and drivers are having fun on the track.

It would certainly be interesting if there were MINIs running around breaking actual track records...

I don't understand why Don posts a question and it's perceived as drama.

Here is the track configuration for that day. 1.8 mile and it was run clockwise:

Glad to hear ya'll had a good time and the Mini's ran well. Amazing how much time a hot shoe can find on track.

Looks like it's high time that some of these folks get on the same track at the same time. Bring your track cars, bring your hot shoes and see who turns the faster laps and doesn't break. Pick someplace somewhat central and tow em out.
