Just the tip! okay... just JCW exhaust tips

First off, I'm looking to do OEM only. My dealer has got me pretty wary of using anything else with some of the horror stories I've heard about warranties be voided for the slightest things.

At any rate, I'm tired of how dirty my exhaust tips are on my CMSAWD... I've checked other threads and seen where folks are replacing their entire exhaust system to the JCW exhaust but that's well over 1000 bucks. I remember a few years back, I was going through a MINI accessories catalog and they had just the JCW exhaust tips - unless I'm imagining that I saw it.

I've heard of others talking about how they love the sound of their CM, but mine is totally tame... I don't know if there's anything I can do about it, but it sounds completely blah... No pop and/gurgle AT ALL. While, I drive like a grandma most of the time, even when I turn off the stereo, roll down the windows, hit sport, and drive the hell out of it, it still sounds like any other car... While, I would love to have a more exciting and fun sound coming from my engine, I'm not up to dropping well over a grand to get it. I'm guessing that just the exhaust tips won't make a sound difference, but I was hoping that due to their shape, that they might not get covered in exhaust grime so quickly.

Is anyone aware of just switching the tips? Are they available and if so, is it a pretty easy job to do myself or is it something that's going to require it going up on a lift and cutting tubes and metal to fit them on? Also, any chance of improved sound with that and/or improved HP or mileage?

I was surprised when I realized that the OEM JCW exhaust tips are only cosmetic. They do not even attach to the directly to the exhaust. Rather they are basically two very nice looking tin cans bolted on to the bumper--but no performance or sound enhancment. I attached a photo from both ends of the tips.

those look different to the ones I was thinking about ... I don't have the JCW aero kit on the rear... Just the front lip only... Still, I thought the JCW exhaust tips were bigger in diameter, stuck out further, and were cut at an angle?

the ones that come with the jcw exhaust (non-aero) are the r56 tips that set screw on

Awesome! That's exactly how I want mine to look! So, I just order the R56 and I can do it myself with a screwdriver? It can't be that easy... I'm never that lucky...

Also, gotta ask... was there any change to yours as far as performance, sound, and/or fuel economy?

Also, do they just slide on over the existing tips that are one there and screw in?

a muffler shop should be able to easily change tips for you for pretty minimal cost. the stock ones will need to be cut off and the new ones welded on.

below are pics mrs pro took of her jcw exhaust installation and you can see the the thinner diameter pipe where the jcw tip slides over.

the full jcw exhaust (cat back or just muffler) is pretty much a diy kit and as long as you can lift the car and cut the existing pipe, the installation takes less than an hour and it adds great throat removing the resonator.

I bought these tips from Summit for $36 each , cut off the factory and welded these on.
