Drivetrain Using a DDM Intake on a Countryman S
Using a DDM Intake on a Countryman S
So I've been thinking of upgrading from my drop in filter (which I switched from stock to the aFe Pro Dry filter which I have had zero issue with) to an open filter.
I already know what many will say in regard to these supposed 'cold air intakes' since they basically suck in HOT air rather than the enclosed OEM airbox.
Since DoS is MIA, I'm looking for other options.
One that some people seem really pleased with is installing a DDM intake on their Countryman S, though it seems like these intakes are really made and engineered for a R56 that utilizes the hood scoop, which obviously the R60 doesn't have.
However, what the DDM system DOES have is more of an enclosed heat shield that others do no (the closest being the VIP one that has an upper heat shield).
I see two versions, one that is made specifically for the R56 as a race version with a more enclosed airbox:
http://www.waymotorworks.com/ddmwork...ke-system.html

And then their street version that has less of an enclosed box:
http://www.waymotorworks.com/ddmwork...et-intake.html

My question is for anyone who has these installed...were there modifications you needed to make to allow them to fit in the R60? Also from what I have read, it sounds like people for some reason feel like throttle response and performance is better, as opposed to being just a glorified noise maker and potentially losing some low end torque in the process.
Help?

I know you said you can't tell if there's an increase...but can you confirm that you didnt in fact LOSE any power, mainly in torque?
I had that intake on my MINI, I did in fact lose low end torque. Gained a bit more on the high end horsepower from my lovely butt dyno. I sold it and dropped a panel filter in.
Ah, that's what I have now. Perhaps I'll keep it...
I don't think I lost any power. If I get on it from a start I still have to feather the throttle a bit because of wheel hop. I think that the intake plus catback mainly just helped with spool time. Now the turbo seems to spool quite a bit sooner.

I'm trying to talk my wife into letting me put one on her 2013 hardtop cooper s. It's been nice to be able to side by side compare when I do something to mine. Since she's lighter, she would be quicker, but feeling the smoothness of my car having boost sooner and building on more of a curve. versus her no boost and then it suddenly kicks you in the teeth. Her's is a fun feeling in a way, but I enjoy the more consistent smoother boost since I got my intake and 2.5 cat back.
