NM 2WD Torque Arm bushing now avail

We just started shipping the torque arm bushings for the 2wd Countrymans this week. Many have asked for this as it is such a great mod for the R56 it's still great for the R60. This will fit both the Countryman and Countryman S 2 wheel drive.

I have the All4 version, and it is my favorite mod so far. It should come from the factory with it already installed. So much better clutch feel.

Thanks for posting, Way. From everything I've read my impression is that this is basically a mod for manual transmissions. I know you to be a straight shooter: Is there anything to be gained for those of us with automatic transmissions?

I would also like to know the benefit on an automatic. Does it add vibration when when stopped but in drive (traffic)?

I have a fwd auto and I installed one on Saturday. There is a nice improvement in throttle response. Overall the car feels tighter, shifts better and is more responsive. There is a little vibration at idle that you feel in the pedals but that's the only negative. Well worth the money. Might be helpful to have an extra set of hands for the install because it's pretty tight going back in and you have to move the engine.

Is this something that can be done DIY in the garage? Obviously I'd need to lift the car up a bit. Or is it complex and should be done by a trusted mechanic?

Are there instructions? How long did it take start-to-finish?

It's pretty easy to do. I got a little worried when I read the instructions and it tells you to push the engine to one side! I thought it was crazy how easily the engine moves once you disconnect the torque arm. I think it took me around 45min. It took some wiggling and concentrated use of my feet, but overall it wasn't a big deal. If you can change oil, you can do this. It does help to jack the front end up a bit so you can get underneath.

I recommend it for either Manual or AT, it really just improves getting the power to the ground and the feel when you pull away from a stop.

At the shop it takes us 5min to install these. This is one of the easiest installs around. Just remove the bolts from the lower engine mount, and put the bushings in the mount and reinstall. You may have to rock the engine slightly to put the mount back in.

Thanks all! I think I saw the All 4 having to remove the exhaust to install. The 2WD looks like a piece of cake.

It's on the list!

Looking at stripes and other cosmetic mods first.

Nope, don't have to drop the exhaust to install on the All4.

But will this void my windshield wiper warranty?

Not for the wipers, but definitely for the washer fluid.

Anyway, this is tempting! Will definitely consider it for my next mod.

I picked these up at Way's shop since I live a few miles from him and had them install them while I was there. I have a manual transmission and haven't noticed any vibration at all. The car justs feels tighter. I am readjusting to the clutch feel now because the car seems to respond much quicker to my inputs. Thanks to Way and Jason for the work!

You just buy 1 set, which includes 2 halves. Each half goes in one side of the torque arm. It stiffens the connection from the engine to the chassis and improves transfer of power to the wheels, especially from a stop.
