JCW exhaust vs. VIP or others?

Hey folks - being a bit of a newbie when it comes to aftermarket exhausts, I'd like your opinions and insight.

I'm wanting a bit of extra flow and growl in my new Countryman S and was considering the JCW Exhaust. I like the look and sound from the videos I've seen.

Is there a reason to consider another exhaust system like the VIP or the NM Engineering?

I'm kinda like you, considering the JCW exhaust, but for my R56 S. The reason I want the JCW over the others is because of the fact that it's guaranteed not to drone!

The only thing I don't like about the JCW exhaust for the R60 is that you need to cut the pipe, making reversing what you've done (e.g. a leased car) very difficult to do. I like the NM because it's a bolt on. I think the VIP is a bolt on too...right?

I think the VIP is a bolt on for the S but not the All4.

I have VIP. Cut after the down pipe but installation was a cinch. All the parts are the highest quality and everything fit Perfect. The note is amazing with no discernible difference inside. Except for the cold air intake which makes an Obnoxious blowoff noise inside and out. I reccomend to anyone looking to get rid of the Pea shooters coming out of the back and want a nicer tone

I installed the NM Engineering Exhaust...I had to cut the OEM exhaust to fit...Didn't really expect that, but oh well!

For what it's worth, it's pretty quiet, quieter than I expect it to be. There is a subtle drone when at cruising speeds, but it doesn't really bother me much. I did also install the NM Intake, air charge and discharge pipes, so there's more noises going on now. Overall happy!

Took this quick vid afer installing. It has gotten a pinch louder as the exhaust is starting to wear in though...If your speakers don't have any bass, you won't hear it much, but if you do, you'll hear what it realistically sounds like...

from WIF, the JCW isnt any larger than the stk CM exhaust, but does sound nice while also being OEM. Another option is the Magnaflow Exhaust.

If you really want more flow, you'll need to cut out the 2nd cat and resonator that's just after the down pipe. The VIP has a full system that replaces them with a higher flow resonator, or you can add a resonator to the NM or JCW exhausts. If you plan on keeping the 2nd cat in place, I'd probably go with the JCW to keep everything OEM.

I love my JCW exhaust... Well what's left of it ... I cut out all the resonators and replaced the Downpipe so it sounds like a rally car now!

Which downpipe did you install?

Akrapovic... It was expensive but the build quality is just fantastic.

Can i go with the JCW exhaust and order the mid pipe that would eliminate the resonator and/or second cat. Where does the midpipe bolt to. I'd think the end of the downpipe. Sorry I'm used to wrx exhausts.

I have the complete JCW system and after 1000 or so miles on it, it sounds utterly fantastic! My Fiance complains that the exhaust rumbles the entire house when i start her up in the morning. Its one thing i have not regretted one bit!

Hahaha your mom sounds like mine. When I had my previous cars and I modified them she always told me to "grow up". I can't wait to make Sally a little louder.

I decided to go VIP down pipe back. It's on my living room floor awaiting the Akrapovic DP that will go with it. I LOVE the 3.5" tailpipes but am gonna paint them black with 1200 degree engine paint.

Reviving an old thread...do you have to do any cutting if you replace the stock CMS exhaust with a JCW Exhaust? Is it a bolt on?

Cutting is required with JCW.

Confirmed...cutting is necessary. Had my JCW exhaust installed over a year ago....and have not regretted it for a moment. Mine's a 2011, so I was patiently waiting for 3rd party exhausts to catch up....saw the VIP, Quicksilver most all now have them but opted for the JCW, let the dealer install and keeps everything nice, nice with warranties.
This past summer at a mini, mini meet up at a garage in MA (Greasy's) Awesome crew ! I had them cut, remove the rest of the unnecessary items, weld back in a section of pipe and it's been growling to perfection...
well at least for a "young" 60 year old
