Motorin' Noob No Longer?

I'm preparing to remove the 'Noob' from my signature. On Saturday my wife and I will begin our 2 week 3500 mile east coast road trip. We're travelling south down the coast (as close to the water as we can get) all the way to Fort Pearce, Florida, then across to the the west coast of Florida and back north along the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive.

This will be the longest drive I've done in over 35 years and I hope to have the top down for the entire trip (crossing fingers and toes).

I've pretty much laid out the whole trip, but if anyone has any specific spots you think should definitely not be missed, I'm listening!

Unfortunately, no Tail of the Dragon this time around. My commitment this time is to do the entire Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive. It looks like that little section of Parkway between Soco and Balsam Gaps will have to do.

On the brightside, I'm running a GoPro for the entire trip with a link to my OBD Adapter and gauges from Dashware, so the video should be pretty cool.

Saturday can't get here soon enough!

Congrats and post up the R59 Coupe pics. The R59 is almost more fun then the R52 and R57.

I'll answer you both...

What I have is a GoPro Hero 4 Black mounted on the driver's side headrest using a CruiseCam headrest mount. The funky cables you see in the photo may or may not make the actual trip because I'm waiting on delivery of a better microphone wind blocker. The foam one that came with the mic is still very noisy and, to be honest, the built-in mic is probably good enough for this purpose.

I have an OBDLink MX Bluetooth OBD adapter plugged in to the OBD Socket and connected to an old Samsung Galaxy S4 running Torque Pro for Android. That takes care of logging the OBD data to a file on the phone.

Also on the S4 is the GoPro app so I can check my camera to make sure the view is what I want.

If you look at the front interior shot you can see 2 phone mounts. The big red one is for my Nexus 6 which will be used for Navigation and Music. The smaller one has the s4 mounted in it. I've installed a little "root" app called PinTasking that makes it simple to go back and forth between 2 apps (GoPro and Torque Pro) with a single click.

The GoPro video and Torque data log can then be combined in an application named DashWare. This company was recently bought by GoPro. Dashware (currently running on my Windows Laptop) allows you to create "gauges" that can then be layered over the video and, using the data from the Torque log, update their readings in real-time based on that data.

I then used the GoPro CineForm studio software to speed up the attached test video in spots and add a cool Satriani soundtrack. I'll probably do the final videos of the actual trip in Premiere Pro.

It's really very cool (video may take a few moments to load).

As for Mini Connected? Yes, but without Navigation.

Unfortunately, I'm looking at editing down well over a hundred hours of video. Sorry to say, I won't have much time to do yours as well

Here's the mic I'm using, the MicW iGoMic. It's a pretty good little mic that has both the USB connector for GoPro and 3.5mm connectors for everything else.

The Wind Blocker I ordered is the
Movo WS1 Furry Outdoor Microphone Windscreen Muff Movo WS1 Furry Outdoor Microphone Windscreen Muff
and I won't know how well it works until tomorrow.

Well, it works. Sort of. At 85 no amount of gerbil fur is going to stop the wind noise.

I'm gonna do a little experiment later today mounting the mic lower down in the cockpit. The trip starts tomorrow, so I'm definitely running out of time!.
