Ordered! Now I have a few questions...

Hi again!

My MINI Cooper S Roadster has officially been ordered. I'm not gonna lie, I'm pretty ****ing excited! Here are the final specs

MCSa Roadster
Eclipse Grey
Automatic transmission
Metallic Paint (Eclipse Grey)
Lounge Leather (Toffee)
Run flat tyres
17” Conical spoke wheels (black)
Chrome Line Interior
Chrome Line Exterior
Chrome Line Mirror caps
Interior surface Black Piano
Radio Visual Boost
Navigation
Harmon Kardon sound system
Colour Line in Toffee
Heated seats
Semi-automatic soft-top
Bluetooth/USB preparation
Voice Control

(Bi-Xenons, Auto headlights, rain sensing wipers and Climate Control are all standard here in Australia)

According to my dealer, I have a late July build. I was originally promised a late June build but things got delayed for various reasons. Anyway, does a late July build mean I have a 2013 model heading my way?

I still have a little time to modify my options so is there anything any of you think I should add or get rid of?

Thanks!

Great that you we able to get a July build. I heard the plant closes down in August for the month.

When do you expect to take delivery?

According to my dealer, ETA is late September. Very pleased I got in before the August break!

rear fog

Get the rear fog light. I say this only because if you don't you will have a empty toggle and just looked weird. I also have a eclipse grey that I can not wait to see looks like you didn't miss much I was on the fence about my color line and seats so I just went standard for now. She is on the boat Florida highway and I hope to have her 2nd week of August.

Thanks MIDLYF, luckily for me rear fog lights are standard here. Looking forward to seeing pictures of your MINI, interested to see how the Eclipse Grey looks in real life.

We got the back-up sensors and I think they are a real plus. Great if you have kids (or dogs) around!

I got a call today from my dealership with some bad news.

Apparently they had four or five Roadster orders built in July (mine being one of them) but the factory screwed up the orders and built all the automatic cars with manual transmissions by accident.

My car was originally suppose to be delivered mid September but as the factory is closed through August and mine has had to be re-ordered, it will now be built in September and won't be delivered until mid/late November

My dealer did say he'd added electric side mirrors free of charge and that he'd organise a MINI for me to use for the period between when my Roadster was suppose arrive through until the new one arrives so that's something...

Oh no! That is disappointing.

Is the only difference the manual? I know you want the auto, but the manual is pretty engaging and a bit cheaper...

Sorry things went awry. You'll be all set for your nice driving weather though.

Do you know how to drive a manual? If so, go with it! If not, call a driving school and take a lesson from a pro. Then insist on a manual loaner from the MINI dealer and practice, practice, practice on it!

I purchased my first manual sight unseen when I was in college (it was an old Fiat 128) and stalled out five or six times driving it a mile back to my apartment. I quickly learned to handle it.

Since then, I've probably owned a dozen cars, split pretty evenly between manual and automatic. With the manuals, I always feel like I'm driving. With the automatics, I'm riding or piloting them. It's just different. Unless a physical limitation (bad back or leg) would limit my options, I would not purchase an automatic Roadster. My $.02...

I have a very similarly optioned car, same color and wheels but satellite grey lounge interior. Silver sport stripes look incredible with the exterior and all of the chrome trim. Highly recommended.

Also, if you are an "invigorated" driver, DTC is high on my list.

And, yes. I WISH that I had a manual. My last Mini was stick, and my left leg feels sooooo lonely and useless now. If you can, I would.

Me too on the wishing that I still had a manual. But , Olga won that battle. But not next time, unless the 8-speed is DSG.
