R56 S Fuel Door on R58

So I miss the look from my R53, don't care for the flat door on my R58. Anybody know if it's possible to put an R56 S fuel door on an R58?

My understanding is that, due to the shape of the car, MINI added some structural reinforcement behind the gas door area, which prevents switching out to the Cooper S gas cap.

Trust me I feel the same way. One of the first things I went looking for as soon as I bought my JCW

Yea,

Remember hearing also it will not work due to the structural changes, Wonder if it can be modified to fit?

Retrofit Chrome Gas Cap Lid Set

Same problem on the Roadsters. Both cars are based on the Convertible, which doesn't have the silver gas cap either. There must be a way to do something like this as an overlay or replacement for the painted part of the cap:

Might be worth it to mod the kit above.

Here's another (I hope):

I'm sure there would be a way to do this kind of thing if the "real" S cap can't be made to work.

Does this mean you are currently working on modifying one to fit(at least attempting)?

When we get one in we have an R58 to compare we will update the thread, unless one of the people on here likes to try it themselves and has one to test.

Last year we tore my R58 apart to try to find a way to get the S fuel door to fit. The added structure inside the quarter panel would have to be completely removed.....something I'm not comfortable with.

Does anyone know if an overlay exists since a full replacement seems to be a no-go?

I would love to do this as well. I do not understand why my JCW R58 does not have a much cooler fuel filler cap system. It just doesn't make sense. The car is a sports coupe or roadster. Someone out there must have a solution. If anyone does please post.
