Looking at my car the other day the idea of the fuel door was brought up. I have been wondering why they put the flat door from the Justa's on the Countryman instead of the Cooper S, so the research has begun to see if I can covert it into the R56 Fuel Door. My question is has anyone else looked into this idea before and what have you found? Thanks.

I've wondered the same thing. First step would be to check part numbers on RealOEM and see if the R60 door is the same part number as the R56 Justa. If so, it seems like swapping for the R56 S would work.

Well I have all the part numbers from the R60, R56S & R56 Justa...not really adding up but I am going to order the parts for the R56S. Order them and see what happens. Can't have it without trying!!!

I think you'll find the filler neck on the R60 sticks out a little too far to retrofit a R56-style gas door on it. I believe that's why we get the same flat door treatment as the R57. It's all a matter of space.

So help a new guy who is still waiting for his R60. What is the difference between the two?

Currently the our R60's have the flat fuel door on it. If you look at the video above you will see the chrome fuel cap from the R56's on it and the look is totally different.

I personally just emailed the guy Paul and as soon as I hear something back about the conversion kit, I will pass it along.

Is there a reason for doing this other than looks? My dark silver '04 MCS (R53) had the chrome fuel cap and I liked that look. I'm not sure it would work with my light coffee '12 CMS though. I can't think of a practical reason for making this mod. If there is one could someone enlighten me?

I have not received any word back from the couple people that I have emailed so far. I am still trying.

Just for looks. Once I do get it done, I am having it wrapped gloss black to match my car.

Well it seems nobody at airrex is being helpful. I got 2 emails telling me to contact each other, so I am going to order the fuel cap and the inner peice and try to install them myself.

I don't know how close you are to a dealer, but I would recommend measuring the diameter of the R56 cap vs the R60 cap before you order anything. That's what I would do, anyway.

Actually, if you send me a PM reminder this evening I'll measure my R60 vs my wife's R55. I'll probably forget otherwise.
