Not sure if you all get these questions? I had a cute girl at a light today who was on the phone in a nice SUV motion to me to roll my window down and ask me what kind of car I am driving.

I guess the S Coupe is still odd? Not many on the roads like the traditional Mini.

So what have been your experiences? Do tell......

 

I work at a large company, and in addition to my Roadster there is a second Roadster and a Coupé in the parking garage.

I tracked down the other drivers and compared notes, we all have had similar experiences as you described. The hatchbacks and Countrymans are common place, I see at least 10 per day, but the coupé and roadster are rare.

I hope MINI doesn't discontinue them...

 

HA! I just had a conversation about this! The only difference is I drive a Hardtop. There are a lot of people who don't know what a MINI is at all. Surprises me every time.

 

Are you sure that's what she really wanted to know and you unknowingly let an opportunity slip by? Women often don't actually say what they really mean, you know.

 

Was she single?

 

Perceptions are a funny thing. I have an old girl friend (45 years ago), who on learning I drive and really like my MINI, posed the question, "Didn't you drive a Karman Ghia once?" My dad pwned one when I was a kid. But, the point is, she was equating the 2 cars! haha.

 

I had a somewhat similar experience a year ago.

I was parked at a red light on a very popular street one night, with the windows rolled down. A group of intoxicated people were at the corner waiting for their walk signal to cross in front of me. I noticed one of the girls seemed particularly excited about seeing my car at the light.

When their green walk signal came on, the group proceeded to cross the intersection; but the excited girl beelined right to my window. She leaned over, looked inside, then looked right at me and said, "You have no idea how badly I want to get in your car!"

Sadly, before I could invite her in, her boyfriend grabbed her arm and pulled her away. I couldn't stop laughing.

No cute girl stories, but a number of people still as me "what car is that, is it a Mini?". They all know what Minis look like but it's different enough and they haven't seen one. I live in an area of about 80k. Lots of Minis but I've seen 2 other Coupes and one Roadster, only one is JCW.

 

Yes, too bad I am married as I could have fun with it. Hard to tell if she was married but I think I recall a ring on her finger and she was on the phone at the time and interrupted the call - no surprise as everyone is on the phone when driving it seems especially downtown.

I still remember when I saw my first coupe downtown with California plates and I am in Georgia. I could figure that it was a mini between stop lights downtown. So cute as was the girl driving it.

What got me interested in Mini is the dash too! What were all those buttons above the mirror? Why a speedometer in the middle. I have to check this car out. What makes it work and so on. Fun factor impressed me as did gas mileage. I did not want another gas hog. I run premium in mine, so it might not be great on gas cost per mile? But better than a huge four door sedan.

I did have a guy wave at me at the gas station as he had a very nice clubman all decked out as eyed each others cars he waved and I waved back. Have not really experienced any rude Mini people. We just love our cars.
