That should be more then enough to help with the heat, but I was suggesting this one as well....

This wraps around the turbo, then the stock shield goes over, then if you have the NM shield you can also install that. If you also have that adhesive for the scoop you can stick that on there too lol.

I have been running a challenge scoop on mine since AMVIV and don't seem to have heat issue and it has been run in 106 deg temps at speed for 2 to 4 hours and haven't seen any issues with my hood scoop or silver strips.

Its hotter than that here in Texas, vehicles run 220 you could fry an egg on the hood.......It's way hotter than 106 and I just want to prevent future damage

Most of these engines N-14 , N-18 run 220 to 226 once they are up to temp. As a owner of a black car and see 110 to 115 in Death Valley and not having any heat transfer related issues as of yet, I am not to concerned. But I will be doing a few things in the future to make sure to avoid any problems.

I can confirm that part no.51487307579 from the coupe MCS fits my 2/12 MCS hardtop like a glove. Roadster bonnets have the same part number so it should fit them, too.

11 x 51481915964 expanding rivets are needed.

It is purely the matt insulation piece without any reflective foil above the turbo at the front or at the back of the engine (to suit diesels turbos presumably...)

It cost £62.51 inc vat + £2.24 inc for the clips ie ~$85.

I took some piccies but post no 1 shows it just as well; problem solved thanks to PatrickKB.

Whoa, mine doesn't have that foil on it??

Also, why is the foil position towards the back of the hood?
Would figure it should be up front, right above the turbo.

When I took delivery of my JCW Coupe in March the insulator had a hole in it and had the dealer order me a new one. The original one with the hole did not have the foil but the replacement which I just had installed yesterday has the foil where it should be.

That looks like the proper one for a front-mount turbo!
Is there a part number stamped on it somewhere ? or on a little white sticker, perhaps?

installed

So after a month.. and no real answer - why some had and some had not.
My Dealership supplied the insulation. My MA basicly installed it as we stood in the parking lot. Thanks CLASSIC MINI and NEAL LEVY

Ok so let me see if I understand this, it is for S and JCW models to protect factory stripes?

I have a justa that on my ride home gets quite warm. Awaiting arrival of custom stripes, if you were in me would you look to invest in the insulation to protect paint, clear bra and stripes?

I don't expect MINI/dealer to pay for it just need to know if it will be beneficial to protect my investment

R58JCW / VX Crazy, there's a label stamped into the material on the bottom left-hand side of the insulation as you open the bonnet.

There's a number stamped to the right of the 'MINI' logo there; it starts with a '7' and might be 7266543...

Add 5148 to the front so the part # might be 5148726643

Yes that picture of Vx crazy appears to be the right one for the Coupe. Would really appreaciate it if you could supply the part number.

what's the price on 51487334336? Definitely looks easy enough to put in yourself, right?

I think you are right... We have the one with the foil in the back and it seems just fine above the turbo -- so far The only place the hood is even warm is outside the reach of the insulator!

Are dealers willing to add this for free? I finally checked my 10/2011 build JCW Coupe (no stripes) and it doesn't have any insulation.

I have a 8/2011 build, factory stripes, no insulation. I did have the insulation installed, cost $85. My Dealer has inquired about this, as has numerous others, but no answer back from Mini on this. I think that Mini needs to answer on this matter.
