R58 Insulation under hood
Yes MakoBimmer, this seems to be the best option for the petrol/turbo option. I presume it was fitted as OEM at the factory?
Would you mind listing the part number please? I know it will help lots of fellow MINI'ers...

Done! I edited my post.
keep an eye on it!
I had the version installed with the heat shield at the rear of the engine compartment. The turbo burned right through, and a replacement part has been ordered with the shield in the front!
I had an '08 Cooper S where the hood got so hot I could probably bake cookies on it. I also had warping of the hood scoop, and my black stripes lost their luster after 2 years from the double sided baking they received.
HOWEVER, my '13 Cooper S Coupe (Production Date Jan/2013) has the pictured insulation under the hood, and I can not find one hotspot on the surface of the hood now. Not one spot! I guess this solved the problem!
Poor iphone pic, but this is the one I have and shows it is Autoneum 7307579

Looks like the newest part corresponds to the 7307579 as the part number of the newest part is 51487307579 , showing the last digits the same.

Interesting as the insulation w/turbo shield was what came on my 2012 roadster while my 2013 roadster had nothing.. Seems to still be completely random from the factory so if you haven't got it then request it.
Yes it should work on all new MCS models (apart from the Countryman)..

My fresh 2013 Clubman S didn't come with one..
Interesting. last time I inquired about this part at Patrick MINI near Chicago, I was told it wasn't available. They ordered the one that was available and it was the one for diesels... which is odd since in the US they're not sold.
Gregory K. I fitted the bonnet insulation to my Nov 2011 build N18 MCS in July 2012.
What crystallized it for me was that through RealOEM I found my bonnet had the same part number as all the other 'similar' varieties, R57/58/59 S models (except the larger Countryman), so it was a 'no brainer' that it would fit.
Despite that, my dealership called it a 'special import part from Germany' with the dark promise of 'no refund if it didn't fit'.
I urge you to do as I did and think out of their box by checking RealOEM. Your decision is at least as good as theirs (and probably better, I've found...)
My bonnet remains cool and my engine coolant temps (always worth keeping an eye on) are unaffected.

As you have an n18 your hood may be slightly different than my n14.
GregoryK I've been doing some clicking through RealOEM. You may not have to drill holes.
Your R56 N14 and my R56LCI N18 have the same bonnet part no. (It seems to change after 6/2012). This part number is 41612754741. I've checked both UK and US versions. Try it for yourself and see.
IMO I would be disappointed if I ordered a new bonnet for my N18 using this part number and the holes weren't there...
With the greatest of respect I feel you ought to try measuring up with an actual insulator in your hand.
They're easy to take off if you know somebody that has one. And/or your dealer might have one in stock. (If it still doesn't line up I apologise profusely!) Ask for it by number since I found out the MINI catalogue does not support a straight swap to the S coupe/roadster to the S hatch let alone N18 to N14 and also I suspect inaccuracy. (These bonnet part nos. are identical, as well...)
Stick with it; good luck!

I am really confused now. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I got 2013 MCS hard top and planning to purchase hood insulation (Part # 51487307579). From all of the pictures above, the hood insulation does not have an opening for the hood scoop.
Will that be a problem? What is the purpose of the hood scoop if the hood insulation does not have opening for it? Will insulation create more problems with engine running hot? Thank you.

miniforceny your R56 hood scoop serves no function whatsoever other than being a cosmetic design feature carried forward from the R53 where it was necessary...
The underbonnet insulation has no opening for the hood scoop nor does it need it IMO.
I've measured coolant temps before + after fitting and there's no difference, nor does my fan run any more frequently.

glad i waited to get this at Sewell. ordered with the 11 rivets - don't forget these! such a great deal at Sewell
i can confirm that part# 51487307579 has the tin foil right on top of our turbo. btw, mine is an 2011 mcs and it fits like a glove
thanks guys!

Let me get this straight. MINI currently releases vehicles that may, or may not, have OEM shields installed to absorb heat from the turbo. I have a '14 Roadster S arriving from England next week. Should it lack Part# 51487307579, I'm entitled to have MINI install the part under the factory warranty. Do I have it right? Sounds very bush league to me.

As an update, I notice my bonnet only gets warm now and not boiling hot. Also, it decreases engine chatter quite a bit. This heat insulation is well worth the price!
Finally got my blanket. Fits perfectly except as I suspected there are no holes for the fasteners. Have to drill these...carefully!
Will post pictures when done.
You can just sit the blanket on top of the engine bay and close the hood without mounting it if you like...makes a big difference to the engine noise when driving....by the way.
