Those seatbelt doodads - new and improved.

Just wanted to share. I had read on another post that someone had bought a newer part number version of the MINI seatbelt holders for their coupe. Many had said they purchased them and they were junk. I had my guy order a set with the new part#, and when they came in, we cracked both new and old to see what the difference was.

I myself am tired of having to reset the darn passenger belt every time someone comes along for a drive. The belt always ends up half out and the buckle clanks around. It makes me crazy!

The extender/holder attaches under the headrest, and provides a curved loop/finger to hold the belt forward and away from the back of the car.

So on to the comparison. The original version had a hook piece that moved up and down about an inch and a half. The hook piece snaps onto the mounted piece and is made to pop apart if too much tension is applied. Apparently purchasers of the original had them popping apart left and right under very little stress, and most tossed them out or taped them together.

The NEW version looks identical BUT has one major difference. The hook now moves up and down almost completely from top side to bottom.

Now the hook that holds the belt has a LOT more freedom of movement, so if it does have pressure applied it will move/swivel up and down and not pop apart. If you really give it a hard pull it WILL come apart, but when I tried it on the old version it popped off almost instantly. New version required a good hard pull.

So long story short. If you're tired of reaching back to grab the drivers belt - or you're sick of that clanking buckle whenever your significant other (or co-worker etc) exits the coupe - these are a worthwhile purchase. Mine were 33 bucks, and they should have been included with the car from the get go! I'll try to snap of photo of them soon. Coupe is having a relaxing week at the MINI dealer having it's tires rotated, oil changed and the obnoxious speaker/rear window trim rattle resolved!

(and let me tell you the 2012 convertible I've been driving all week is no prize. Not to mention every woman I see comes over to tell me how "cute" it is. ugh!)

part no. 52302213297 seat belt holder

This is the NEW replacement part. I picked up the coupe this afternoon, and installed them. They work great. Seat belt now rests along the far edge of the driver and passenger seats. The buckles no longer clank up against the metal columns. No more twisting my shoulder out of joint to put the darn thing on!

I'll take a pic as soon as I can. And for those of you who do order them - when you take them out of the package, the 2 holes are much farther apart than the coupe headrest posts. You have to hold the doodad in your hand and squeeze it to make them shorter. Then they fit nice and snug. They actually look like they should have been there to begin with.

I was just thinking about the seatbelt issue today. Glad to see this. I hate hearing the seatbelt bang and rake across the car when I'm pulling it to me.

Sounds like a good solution. After a few weeks of struggling and some rattling I learned to simply lay the seat belts over the outside of the seats. No struggle to pull it, no rattle. Just have to remember to do it. Works for me!

The cost of these to the dealer is US$35.00. They list for US$85.00.

How did you get them for US$33.00?

Could be the fact I've bought 5 MINI's from my dealer - and they like me a LOT!

I was charged 52 dollars for mine which were installed on Friday. I was expecting it to cost a bit less.

Picked mine up on Saturday.

They're going back. I have my seat back far enough that the "seatbelt doodads" don't do anything as they're pretty much up against the existing seatbelt holder.

Thanks for sharing. I was going to get these until I read all the ad reviews. I'd love to see a picture when you have the chance.
