2007 MCS Convertible

First time post so excuse me if I'm hitting on something already known to everyone else here......

My wife has an Audi S4 Cabriolet 2005.5. It has 24k on it and has been in the shop every 2 months with something new failing. Needless to say, she's getting a bit fed up. We both have always liked the MINIs and her brother has a 2003 MCS Coupe. They are very popular with our friends in the Lotus community as well.

OK here's my point. We're thinking of dumping the Audi and getting a MCS convertible. Am I reading the threads correctly that the new body style/ mechanics will not be transferred to the convertible until 2009? I'm trying to figure out if I should wait or not.

Thanks for the help folks.

That is correct. The convertible will carry forward in its current form until the 2009 model year (so late 2008).

Autoexpress has posted that the convertible will be lauched in June 2007. Can anyone back this up?

Autoexpress is kind of notorious for being inaccurate.

From MotoringFile :: MINI Product Roadmap Leaked to the Web?

You can see that the R52 (current generation cabrio) continues well into 2008, then in the third quarter of 2008, the R57 (next generation cabrio) is launched as a MY2009.

Inaccurate? I hope so

This shows the R55 MCS not being available until Q3 2007.

Of course with 2005 on the calendar, this "leak" is likely from from 2005.

My local MINI dealer cannot even keep their MCS Verties in stock. I am glad I got mine when I did, 3 weeks ago. It is everything I could ever want and more that I did not know that I had to have! Audi is a nice car but if it is giving you unwelcome agida, test drive a Mini and you will be hooked! You wil both enjoy driving it. LOVE my MINI! (See my gallery if you want).

I'd go with the current gen (which has most/all of the bugs and kinks worked out of it) and then if 2009 comes around and you want to try the new version, go for that. The current gen MINIs are reliable cars.

I ordered my MCS just last month after driving it back to back with an Audi S4, the MINI was just worlds more fun IMO. And like Vic said, they've got the kinks out and look indistinguishable from the new body to virtually everyone, so it's not like in 3 years you'll look like you're driving an outdated car or anything.

We dropped our 2005 Audi A6 for the same reasons, it always had a problem. We replaced the Audi with our second MINI and have never been happier

R55 is the Clubman, which is indeed expected around Q3 2007.

I traded in a 2003 A4 3.0 cabrio which we loved, albeit a few issues in the beginning (ECU, *****), for an MCSc, You'll find that even though the S4 cabrio is fast, the MCSc is just soooo fund to drive. A lot more responsive and driving around with 1500 fewer pounds feels like one heck of a relief, I'll tell ya!
