Comments on My Build

Here's what I'm looking at. I like the Polar Beige leather to lighten up the interior.

2012 cooper s convertible
Color
B24 Eclipse Gray Body Color
Packages
ZCW Cold Weather Package
ZSP Sport Package
2RU 17" Black Star Bullet
Options
3AB Body Color Mirror Caps
4BE Dash Surface in English Oak
4C1 Carbon Black Color Line
4CW Door Panel in Polar Beige
674 Harman/Kardon Sound System
6ND Bluetooth and USB/iPod Adapter
T6GW Leather: Gravity Polar Beige

I might add the rear fog light.

Some Questions -
1-How necessary is the EDC and the DTC for spirited road driving? I'm not tracking this car. The main reason to get the Sport Package (for me) is the 17" wheels. I'm also pondering whether the 16" wheels would be fine and dump the Sport Package. Ride is definitely a consideration in SF's potholed streets.
2- Is the automatic HVAC necessary? I haven't speced it. I don't think it gives the driver and the passenger separate temperature controls, does it?
3-What are the lightest wheels in the Sport Package. Or if you can direct me to a link.
4-Is the bluetooth necessary? I've heard the iPhone integration isn't that good. Also, isn't there an Aux out on the HK Stereo?
5-I've seen some Mini's with the hood stripes in the center, rather than on the side, but couldn't figure out how to spec that. Any ideas?

Thanks for all comments

2. No. Automatic A/C allows you to set a temp and the system will automatically adjust heat and fan speed to maintain that temp.

4. No, not necessary, but it works well for me (Blackberry user). Yes, there is an Aux out, but I'm not sure what that has to do with the bluetooth...?

5 (?). The center stripes are called sport stripes while the thinner, wider spaced ones are called bonnet stripes. These are likely in the dealer-installed accessories selection (since they are installed at the dealer rather than the factory or VDC).

1. I'm really happy with my 16" wheels. I specifically got them with the bad roads of my area in mind. I think I made the right choice.

5. Center stripes are "sport stripes."

I like your build because it's very similar to mine. I love the eclipse gray color - almost as fast as the spice orange, but not quite. I also got the polar beige door panels with black color line except that I got the black lounge leather. I also felt that the beige door panels would lighten up the interior. The white (or almost white) piping will tie into the door panels. I also got the sport package for the wheels, but if you don't get it, you also give up the Xenon headlights which pretty much everyone on here says is the best option they put on the car. I also wanted the blacked out headlights which require Xenons. As for the wheels and the ride, I'm changing out the RF's as soon as I get the car (any day now!). Based on my experience with RF's and non-RF's on my 335, that will do MUCH more to soften the ride than wheel size. No need for cold weather package here in Sunny CA, although it is a little chilly today - about 60 degrees. LOL I got the premium package because I wanted the comfort access and the auto headlights/wipers. I had them on the 335 and I liked them and got used to them so it would have been a real "give up" for me. If you've never had them, they probably wouldn't be as important. The auto dimming rear view mirror is a good idea too (also in the premium package) because the car sits very low so headlights behind you could be bothersome. I'm doing after market stripes, but you have a pretty nice selection of stripes available from the dealer. In addition to the bonnet stripes on the website, you can, as other have said, get the sport stripes that are on the coupe. But the accessories book at the dealer shows other stripe configurations available including four stripe patterns (thin, thick, thick, thin). Colors through the dealer are limited though whereas after market you can get tie dye if you want to (not suggesting this - just saying that the options are limitless). After market will probably be cheaper too, but you can't roll the cost into the payments like you can with dealer installed in case that's a consideration for you. Overall, I like your build a lot.

Thanks for all of the comments and advice. My wife went to the dealer and said no to the Beige interior, but liked the Satellite Grey. That works for me. I'm also slightly choking on the $35,000. I may get a stripped version with the cold weather package for $30,000. Still thinking.

I just traded in an R55 with Eclipes Gray and it is a very dark color. Looks black most of the time. The dealer listed as a black Mini.
Just so you know.

I think you are nuts not getting the bluetooth stuff. All the issues that you THINK are out there are all software issues, and those are easy to fix. I have an iphone, and it works great. It is just so cheap to get it now, vs a year from now when the next thing we do not know about yet is live, and you are looking to retrofit.

I know you are not getting the mini connect, but to prove a point, the mini app for iphone was updated and added a new screen that gives you temp / realtime HP / realtime torque. The point is in this area, we are talking software... but you need to have the hardware in place.

I wish I had bluetooth and MINI connect, if I was building one I would not omit those for anything.

2. The manual A/C is a pain to use that alone is worth the $500 more. I originally didn't spec my car w/ it but love it now.
4. Get the BT and save yourself the aggravation later.

My Build did include ipod/bluetooth. I ended up getting a used 2010 Chili Red for $22,000. I think I got a good deal.

I would definitely go to the dealer and drive a new mini with 16" wheels, and another with 17's. I did, and the difference was VERY noticeable. I can drive 13 hours in my current MINI with 16's... but would hate it with 17's. I changed my order back to 16's and then ordered the xenon headlights as an option.

I ended up with a used 2010 with 17,000 miles. The 17" run flats had been replaced and the ride is not punishing/

Thanks for the input though.

Lots of good info here.
