R57 Did place an order in december?
Well I didn't order a convertible but my cooper is already in production and I ordered mine around that time. I do think they are slow bc of the holidays. Mine won't be in until the begining of Feb. Looks like it is right on track of 8 weeks total.
This is what I am told by an MA, but I have found no other info to back this up.
The production line makes hardtops all the time, but because Verts are only a small fraction of the cars made, they are done in batches because most of it from the tires up is not the same car as they hardtop.
He said you would NOT see on the line
Cooper / Cooper S / Cooper S / Vert / Cooper / Cooper S and so on.
It does not help that you order it in Dec, most folks are not thinking, "Hmm I want a convertible" in winter.
If you know anything about how cars are made, I can see the point.
As a vert'er myself, it is well worth the wait (took 8 weeks to the day for mine Aug 2011 to Oct 2011).

Actually, my understanding is that they have a separate line for convertibles, so that in itself is not an issue. The real issue is that the new Coupe is built on the same line as the convertible... and since it's the hot new vehicle in the stable, orders for the Coupe take precedence over orders for the convertible. They are giving dealerships far less slots for convertibles than normal. My dealer only had 2 slots to order verts under until March... but they got 8 slots for Coupes.
I took the last slot for a convertible they had (someone else took the other as I was talking to my salesman!).
I ordered a Cooper S Convertible, Spice Orange, Black Sport Stripes, Black Rims, and lots of other assorted goodies! I am currently slotted for production in the last week of January, should get delivery sometime in March. WooHoo!!!!

I was told by my MA that I was scheduled for production the second week of January and expect a delivery in Feb. Do you think this is unrealistic given your comment about coupe production requests being more popular at this time?

I contacted the assembly plant in Oxford via e-mail, asking this specific question. Their response was that they do not build in batches - they build based on order alone. So, if you order a convertible in November, it will get built in November (depending on the number of orders in the queue).
Due to the number of orders for Coupes, they currently have a slight backlog which may add 1-3 weeks to the normal build time... but they are doing their best to reduce that.
Having said that, the delay ONLY impacts when your production starts - not the amount of time after that. MCSConv'12 - since you have a production date, this delay would not apply to you (well, it already has been applied as your production is not starting for a couple of weeks). If your car is being built in mid January, you can reasonably expect to receive it around the end of February or beginning of March!
Cheers!

Just reporting in that we placed our order on Nov. 29 and the little beauty arrived two days ago. So a little over 6 weeks door-2-door. Of course I don't HAVE my new Ice Blue Cab yet - she's got lots of dates with Safety Dept., with the guy who's putting sealant inside and out, etc. Can't wait!
