need help with an icon/chime warning:
When I put the top down on my wife's 2010 MCS I get an icon in the tach area. It's a closed padlock with a car icon (top down) right below it. This is accompanied by a series of warning chimes. I can't find an explanation in the manual. We've looked over things that we see as lock related, but no luck. What are we missing here?

Perhaps the latches are not completely down in the boot.
I assume you do get to where the top does open completely. These latches I refer to are the ones that you have to open to release the top part of the boot where the shelf is.
My gym bag regularly catches the latch handle. So if I'm not careful, i sometimes open or raise the latch handle when removing my bag.
Check and see... Let us know.
Cheers!

Off the top of my head I don't remember what that icon means but I do know I saw it in the owner's manual when I read through it after getting my mini.
If you have your owners manual, in the back there is a section that lists and shows most of the icons warning lights and explains what they mean. That particular one is in there.

Will the top respond to the button? Is it still going up and down? Does the chime stop in either of these conditions (up or down)?
On my '11 MCSC, I had a sensor fail and the top was stuck in the almost down position. The icon you mention appears, which I believe means that the top has failed to close and lock down, and the car chimed incessantly at any speed over 25 mph. Also, the rear hatch would not open. I had to take it in for repair. Thank god for the warranty.

X2 or it’s not completely down... I used to have this problem all the time with my cabrios. It looks down but there was always something in the way for the full travel.

If you are close to one take it to a dealer. I took delivery of 11 and it was doing the same thing, except it would not go back up afterwords. They had it for a few days before they figured out which switch was bad. The crappy thing was that it got stuck down on me over 300 miles away from home, and the manaul closing procedures can be a bit of a hassle. Be careful if you ever have to use the manual crank to close the top.
