The thrill is gone

It used to be that I'd have that daily excited anticipation of getting my new car.

I used to have its picture on my computer's desktop.

I used to refer to it as "her".

No more. The events of the past couple of days have completely changed my attitude. Now it's just another car.

Way to promote the brand.

Did you give up your order? If so I'm sorry to hear that. You might want to link to the other thread for those who weren't following it.

No, I didn't cancel my order, just not as excited about it. In a way I should be grateful, as now I'm approaching this deal with much less emotion.

I'm betting it has to do with this thread:

See the attached thread. There is a delay with all convertibles at the VDC due to the wrong wheels being attached. They have no idea when they will be released. And I had been getting an "any day now" since 4/6, and only found out yesterday that:
1. They are still not sure how the problem will be resolved. This I find stunning since in my uninformed opinion they should just put the right wheels on.
2. The problem was identified on 4/1, and nobody affected was notified until 4/15.
3. The problem was identified on 4/1, and they still hadn't resolved what I would think is a simple matter in 2 full weeks.

So no, "any day now" is highly unlikely. May is looking more likely.

I'm hoping so. Maybe I'll see if I can squeeze in a R57 test drive on Saturday. It's supposed to be good topless weather.

It's obviously not a simple matter or they would have resolved it. You don't know why they don't have the wheels, it could be a supplier went out of business and left them hanging or simply can't get raw materials or labor or any number of reasons. It also could be the wheels sent to MINI were defective and MINI is making them replace them. They would not have put the wrong wheels and tires on these cars just on a lark or "by mistake", but they needed to put something on them to get them off the line and into the pipeline and keep the assembly line running. Now to add to the complications, they have to ship the new wheels to the US, you can imagine what it would cost to airlift 40 pallets of wheel/tires? It would be monstrously huge, so I'll bet they're sending them over on the next boat along with the next shipment of cars.

While I feel for your frustration, if you waited this long, what's another week or whatever to get your car right?

I would think the dealer would be happy to give you a loaner in the meantime till yours gets in, I know my dealer would have done so, but since they didn't cause the problem they may not feel inclined to do so, and more's the pity. A little customer good will goes a long way..........

At least you don't have any damage. I don't know why they can't ship a batch of wheels over and get the problem solved quickly.

I'd keep you chin up, I agree with gokartride, 'we'll see what happens'.

I had my own horror story for delivery. I ordered my new 07 MC on or about 12/1/06 for a R56 launch delivery of 2/15/07. A couple days before then my MA notifies me that my car did not come with MFSW, had to reorder. I decided to wait and put the reorder in on 3/1, when the MC became available with the 6 spd Getrag (early versions only were automatic.) I got early in que and it was shipped mid to late march, then never showed up at the dealer. The VDC is not in the habit of telling dealers anything about what goes on, but somehow through persistence they can find out for individual cases. I found out mine had a small ding in the bumper (so small the VDC missed it but the trucker who looks for those types of things, lest he get blamed for them, refused to carry it.) The VDC replaced the bumper and I finally got my car in mid April, about 5.5 months after ordering. I did get bummed out for a while and actually considered something else, I thank my wife for talking me out of that. When I picked it up, inspected it with a fine tooth comb and drove it home, all was forgiven and my gidiness was back!

Keep your chin up, it will sort itself out. It will be worth the wait.

Yeah, there's probably a decent reason for it. There may not be as good a reason for not telling you but like any other shipped item sometimes they come early, sometimes they come on time, sometimes they come late. Looks like yours will come late. I didn't order my car, but do they (Mini) actually give you a delivery date at some point like a Fedex shipment or is it more like "we'll call you when it gets here" (then you proceed to contact the MA for news)?

When I ordered my 2006 cabrio, they had a whole batch that got stamped with the WRONG VIN NUMBERS at the factory.... and a whole group of cars got delayed for several weeks while the figured out what to do about it... stuff happens.

ANTS IN YOUR PANTS is NOT BMW's problem. Calm down. IF you can't handle waiting, cancel your order and go buy something somewhere off a lot. The only problem I can figure out here is YOUR ANXIETY. Remember that old line, "A watched pot never boils." Think about it. Now, just relax. You have to have the attitude that it will be here when it is here.
When I bought my 07 MCS, I had never driven or even looked closely at a modern Mini. I owned a 62 Cooper. I ordered the car to my spec (see gallery) and didn't give it another thought. The car actually arrived, but due to the infamous code changes, the car did not have the spec'd cruise control when it arrived. So it had to be re-ordered. I didn't get upset about any of it. And when I signed the papers (paid cash) and my MA walked me out to the car and I climbed in...THAT was the first time I had ever been in or looked closely (in real life) at a modern Mini. How's it been, two years later? FANTASTIC!

Was this just a problem for the MCC cars that were in production to be make it on the Don Carolos as NotPortlyNJ's?

Mine is on the Mignon to arrive at the VDC tomorrow (4/17). I ordered the Black Rims, so maybe that will avoid the tire issue?

I'm also getting it from Prestige. Who is your MA?

NotPortly - Keep us updated!!

I feel your pain bro, but hang in there!!!

When your MINI finally arrives, all will be well and you will soon forget this delay. I'm sure the VDC is trying their best to get the correct wheels as soon as possible. I do have a problem with the dealer not telling you about the hold-up, but then again it could just have been miscommunication between dealer, VDC, Oxford, etc., and they really may not have known what was going on.

YOUR MINI will be what you ordered and not something you settled for off the lot. That will make her even more special for you when she arrives.

Stay here for support and we'll all keep sending positive ESP waves to you...

Mine was basically like "it's a last-week-of-July build, hopefully it's here by the end of August."

NPNJ,

I totally know how you feel. I don't even care about the car anymore. I used to think of it like my baby, but now it's just a pain in the ***. Those rebates and 0% financing looks better day after day especially with this nice weather we're getting.

I don't even want to deal with Prestige because they kept us in the dark. What's the point of doing that to a customer?? The memo was released 2 weeks ago. I don't get it... If they had just been up front and said there was a problem, I would have been annoyed with the situation, but not the dealership because it's not their fault.

I can't imagine waiting 4-6 weeks to take delivery, only to be told "it's not here and we don't know when it's going to be". I'd be deflated too.

But maybe you should squeeze something out of the dealer, like upgraded 18" JCW wheels or something....

You know what they say, if you have lemons...

I have had plenty of bad experiences with MINI dealer, but after you bond with your car, there is no turning back. After several years, the thrill is not gone, and just recently got the urge to adopt another one.

Keep the faith. BMW and the dealers may not be the best, but the car sure has a soul.
