So what's the status of enchantingqueen's and NotPortlyNJ's Minis? Sounds like the VDC are releasing the vehicles to the dealers.

Are you still excited at picking up your Mini, or has the whole VDC delay episode poped the bubble?

Keep us all in the loop.

Well, I got an email from the sales manager at the dealer. The VDC didn't give him an exact date, just said "sometime this week". I'm excited, but I'm also not holding my breath. This weekend will be prime topless motoring weather here, so it'll be a shame if I miss a this week delivery.

Thanks for asking! I'm not holding my breath either. I'm going to look at Wranglers this week and if I find a good deal, I'm going back for my deposit. I'm tried of waiting.

I understand not wanting to wait.. I ordered my car in Nov 06, was told it was possible that I might not make the last build run and would have to wait till Jan.. ugh... then I make the cut off.. the car actually only took a month.. I ordered in Germany.
When the car arrived. The German dealership kept the car for two weeks, wouldnt tell me where the dealership was that the car was being held, that I would have to wait for it to be put on a truck and brought over to where I bought it.. the day finally arrives after I call them daily for an update. I go to pick her up.. and oh Mrs T, we are so sorry but this is Dec. The German dmv is closed, FOR THE MONTH because many gov't offices close for about a month there at Christmas time. BIG PROBLEM lol because on Jan 3 we were shipping the car back to the states because the Army Gods said it was time to come back. So, I could take the car, but it wouldnt be a good idea. If I took it and got into an accident I would have to pay a 16% tax on the total value of the car. He did advocate that I took it. We could register it within the american system over there, but it wouldnt be registered with the Germans.. needless to say.. frustration was not the word I remember feeling.. I was stunned because , by time I registered it with the germans I would only be able to drive it one day before it spent another 6 weeks on a ship.. so I did the only logical thing.. I took it lol and drove the hell outta of it, and kept her safe!.. The wait is a pain.. but well worth it, and in the end like many of us women will say.. it is like childbirth.. ohh extremely painful, uncomfortable but when its all said and done, you dont remember, the joy of having what you have waited for a long time for, over rides the pain.. hang in there

Well I'm hoping that this is like when I got my kitchen remodeled. My contractor said it was a 6-8 week job. It took 14 weeks. It was very frustrating towards the end, because it's so close, yet so far away. I've forgotten the frustration. I'm still loving the kitchen.

You have to protect yourself from having your hopes dashed. When they tell you your MINI is at the dealership....then you can cut loose. I went by the dealership once my MINI arrived and one of the MAs snuck me back into the detailing area to see my car, which was great as I didn't have to break out the ol' nightvision goggles. Needless to say, I didn't sleep much that night.

That stinks. My MCC got off the Mignon on the 18th and I am picking it up today.

You are getting from Prestige also, right?

Yeah, that figures. Of course, if it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have no luck at all.

BTW, was yours an S or Base convertible?

2 weeks after receiving your Mini, you won't even give the delay a thought.

Be strong!

I guess I was lucky with my Clubster, it was ordered Jan 9th and I drove it home Feb 20th. The day the truck dropped it at the dealer's storage lot they called me and I went right down to look it over, and was pleased to see no damage, not a scratch.

That was Saturday Feb 14th and they said they'd have it ready sometime Monday or Tues (I wanted the windows tinted and the "Audi Blade" added) and since my wife works nights, I waited till her next day off on Friday to pick it up.

My MA told me last Saturday that they've just started delivering convertibles that were ordered as far back as last summer.......

Yea, I'm dealing with Prestige. You're getting yours today?! Wow good for you, but f*ckin sucks for us. This is sooo messed up!

Oh and BTW, TU13es Wranglers are AWESOME cars, the only problem is that putting the top down can be annoying.

It's easy to say "hang in there" and that it "will all be worth it", but when you have to take a bus in Jersey City at 9 at night, the wait is not that easy.

I just don't understand the hold up with this car. The hold was released on Friday. If MINI was aware of the problem in late March/ early April the wheels should be here by now. How long does it take to put tires on?? Quite frankly, I don't even care about the wheels. I don't understand why we just can't get them as is, or better yet, give us the car the with wrong wheels and then have us come in to the dealership to get them changed once they arrive.

I should have added, thanks for the encouragement everyone. It just really sucks. I don't even care about this car. It's been a problem from the very beginning. I feel like it's a glimpse into the entire future of the car.

Well, we all hope not. Lots of folks have faced delivery drama of various sorts and survived, but you are right....one has to imagine things could have gone down differently somehow. I know people who were given a MINI loaner for weeks because of a delivery delay. It is unfortunate there remains such inconsistency among MINI dealerships and their customer-service practices.

I talked to my MA yesterday and it seems, even though mine is an "S", it is still stuck at the port because of the wheel issue.

He said,
All the 2009 convertibles MUST have run flat tires (either performance or all season) because they do not have spares. The problem is that the 150 Minis that got the 15" wheels also did not get run flats. According to federal law, if they do not have a spare, they must have run flats. That's why they are held up at the port so there is no chance of delivery to the customer.

Has anyone heard anything about when these cars are going to have the wheels and tires changed and then be delivered?

I went to the dealer on 4/5 to place my order. due to the financing deal (2.9%) going on now, I was persuaded to take one off the lot. the only thing it was missing that the dealer could not install was the auto wipers. After reading all this, I'm glad I took it off the lot. I'm not patient enough for that.

Austin,

Thanks for the info!!! I do not understand why the hell Prestige won't just give us this information!!!!! Either they have no idea what's going on or they are just intentionally with holding information.

Don't these people realize that if you're just open and honest it's easier to be patient and understanding?! Instead they keep their customers in the dark. Very poor customer service!

The Timeline

So my wife and I were talking about this delay, and since we're determined to take a drive down the Blue Ridge Parkway, in a convertibe, in early June, we've decided that in the 1st week of May we start looking at alternatives -- be it an off the lot convertible at another deal, or another brand of convertible. By May 15th, we'll be in a new convertible -- MINI or otherwise.
We're not canceling or re-scheduling our vacation.

Since we get no updates other than "any day now", I can't count on receiving my MINI any time soon. Hell, it can be 8-12 weeks before they deliver it for all I know.
