I orderd mine thru Herb as well. Who was your MA? Oh ya, I paid MSRP as well.

NorthWest Mini in Fife,WA....the ONLY MINI dealer @ the moment in WA State is selling at MSRP plus a $595 dealership fee. I was told there *could* be some wiggle room with the dealer markup. Fortunately, they will soon have competition when Seattle MINI opens its doors....thats when I will re-entertain the idea of buying a MINI.

Yeah I was wondering what to expect when I go in to finance my mini and see the final cost. I mean I know about TT&L and I don't really expect to get anything less the MSRP but they better not add on silly fee's like that dealership fee crap or I will be tempted to walk out. I did have to put down a deposit to have the car made and I didn't even think to ask what would happen say if I didn't get financed or ended up not liking the car when it got here. Hmmmmmm. What can I expect when the car finally arrives at the dealership and I'm ready for the closing?

Be ready to loose your deposit then.

Yeah, that is what I figured. I don't plan on changing my mind but if they try to add on a bunch of crap bogus fee's we will have to do some negotiating.

That's extremely unlikely.

jjp007: Didn't you sign a purchase agreement, specifying the build details and the cost? This would include all dealer fees and local taxes. Every dealer charges some amount of doc or prep fees; mine was just $95 but other local dealers wanted $400 or more. Why not call them and resolve this now?

We got our '07 at Rasmussen BMW/Mini in Portland. I buy a lot of cars, I've bought and traded at least 10 in the past 5 years (Porsches, BMW's, H1 Hummers, Ford Trucks/SUV's) and without a doubt the buying experience at Rasmussen was the best I've ever had. Easy to deal with, no markup and nice people. I'd buy there again in a NY minute.

MINI of Conord: The price of the car was on Manager's special...Sticker showed $28.7K...but sales price was $26.9K. I didn't haggle there, but I had a trade in. I negotiated up my trade in by $500. I still took a loss on my old car, but I didn't have to deal with selling it via private party.

My MA was cool, and he didn't pressure me at all. Everyone was good, even the finance guy. No hard sale there either. I wasn't buying anyways if he tried

*I bought a lot car...probably spec'd by the dealer.

Call Mini of the Hamptons in NY. They will ship you the mini of your choice for ALLOT cheaper.

Can you quantify "a lot"?

Also, is there an additional fee for shipping the car, say to the Washington DC area?

Do you consider the "destination fee" a markup?

this is not a markup. The best way to get a mini at a discount is to trade a junk car. I had a 2001 740i with 120K miles and they offered me 7000, then 9000. I told them that i will sell it on my own and walked out. Two days later they call and said they found a wholesaler that can give me 11000 for the car. Thats about all i wanted. I know i could have sold it for maybe 12 or 13 max, but i was just sitting and needed a lot of work. I 'm not saying i got 4k off. But some how they found 4000 more to give me. . The lesson is always walk out and let them try to make the deal.

If there's no signed agreement it extremely illegal. "Deposits" are considered a "good faith agreement" that are in no way legally binding.

Always. Even if what I'm reading on MSRP being the best you will get, they can always give you more for the trade. But I'll update once I try this method (again).

PMs sent to the 2 Mass members who bought at Herb Chambers.

Don't think of the "Destination Fee" as a markup either but was curious how other folks see it.

I paid straight MSRP and got mats thrown in. The dealer was easy to work with. No high pressure sales. They wanted to be sure I was happy... which I am.

I signed a copy of the order they placed. He made a copy of the order they sent online to the manufacturer, a copy of the design/msrp. The finance guy just made a line with an x at the bottom.

I have no problem with this, I just hope they don't try to add outrageous title/ doc fee's or bmw center prep charges.

When we were first buying in 04 MoMV were doing $1000 markup on Coopers and $2500 on Cooper-Ss. I was dead set on not going over MSRP, It was when the MA suggested we could try East Bay MINI or Long Beach if we wanted MSRP (there'd be a 3 month wait) that I started waivering on the MSRP thing. Then the MA offered $500 over MSRP, just as I was about agree to the whole $1k. I was really surprised, but we took it. They also threw in floor mats.

When I went back for Quentin in 05 he said there was no mark up for returning customers, in general they were still doing $2500 on Cooper-Ss. Same again for Tristan last year. We got floor mats in both, and a discount on the paint protection for Tristan (I wouldn't have bought it at full price).

This year they offered us $500 under as this was the 4th order, in general I don't think they're marking up much these days.

Why would they discount a car that sells as well as MINIs do? I kinda like the no-haggle experience. I don't feel ripped-off or confused like you do after negotiating at other dealerships.

Mike did give us a couple of shirts awhile back and Downtown MINI sponsors a lot of the enthusiast events (and participates) in Central Florida. They give back to the MINI community but when buying a MINI, I just know the price is MSRP.
I looked at the whole buying process this way: I got on my computer at home, configured a car, saw how much it would cost with all of the options I wanted, went to the dealer and placed the order. If the price was unacceptable to me, I would have either configured the car with less options or just not bought it. I like the no haggle too. Dealer asked for a fully refundable $500 deposit to order my ride. When the car arrived, I was charged the price of my car + tax and license fee. No additional markup or extras. I checked invoice and saw the dealer made about $2,500. Minis are great cars and well worth the money and the dealers know it. Anyways, I got what I wanted and I'm happy. Dealer gave me a really nice keychain for both keys, a t-shirt, and a pen. Ordered floor mats and a boot mat from another dealer over the phone that gave a discount to NAM members. Overall a great no stress experience for me. My MA Mari was awesome too. The delivery and introduction to my new Mini was one of the best experiences I've had and I've had a few.

Who here got 1000-1500+ off, name the dealer and I'm sure everyone will call them to buy a car, myself included. My local dealer in Dallas said MSRP, period. I said no thanks after I got 10,000 off my last car (seriously).

Negotiating with a Mini Dealer is like negotiating with the Viet Cong...you know you're going to be tortured, you just don't know how much.

If the model is in demand, you pay MRSP -and- get hit over the head with a shovel. Then you say, Thank You!" or you don't get the car.

This was my first Mini Experience. I did all the work and the dealer gets all the profit.

I'm guessing you went to Mini of Dallas then. I have an advantage, I don't really care if I buy a Mini S right now or not. I told him I can buy a car today or in a year, didn't really matter as long as my requirements were met. He didn't have much to say after I told him I was perfectly happy driving my Lotus, S2000 or Miata for the time being

Cosmo, you are correct.
The baby did come from Dallas.
The Arlington dealer is MSRP, too.
In the short term, with high gas prices, the demand should rise and the prices will stay at MSRP...until 2009 and the new cars come out.

The nice thing was ordering EXACTLY what options I did want.
No regrets on any option. The 45 day wait from Order Date seemed to last months.

Comfort Access and Multi Function Steering Wheel are MUSTS!

Any idea on when the 09 announcements will come out? If it's in a few months and that drives 08 prices down it should be worth it, unless there are major changes.

I'm looking at ordering a Pepper white with only sport, convenience, LSD and HID that's it.

You're planning to wait until the car shows up to confirm all this?
