I think it is safe to say that any potential discount and freebies are dependent on how high demand is in a particular area, how many competing dealers there are, and their available production slots.

Some folks are paying huge markups, some are paying MSRP, and others are claiming to get $1000+ off on current model year cars...

I ordered my MC at MINI of Peabody in Mass. I paid MSRP, had to pay to order floormats, and still had to wait 5 weeks until production. I don't mind. I'm getting a car which I really enjoy driving, it will hold its value, save me money on gas, and I will have no problem selling it in 3-4 years when I'm ready for another vehicle.

When Ford or Chevy price a car, they set the MSRP artificially high so that everyone feels like they got a great deal when they pay $3-4K under MSRP, or more. Hence all of the "employee pricing" promotions, where they charge dealer invoice or below. I wonder if that is because the cars are flying out of showrooms at full MSRP... or because they have a half year's worth of unsold inventory which they need to somehow liquidate.

Like some of the other posts, I also did not mind the no haggle experience. I knew I was getting the same deal as everyone else, and I did not want to drive an extra few hundred miles and haggle just to try to score some free floormats or stickers and whatnot.

I agree... I live in Las Vegas and there is only one MINI Dealer here. I even went to the extent to speak to MINI dealers in Southern California L.A. area. There are about 11 dealers there. Half were selling at MSRP and half $2500-$3000 above MSRP. I stayed with my local Vegas dealer. They are great anyways. No pressure, just it is what it is attitude.

folks that get quarter, nickle, and dime discounts on new stock live in areas where dealer density is high, ergo more competition for yr motoring dollar. however, for us poor schmucks that live in the mountain time zone, where there are only 4 dealers total spread out in 7 states, well, msrp is the rule, unless y're buying a never-titled demo or year-end stock remaining on the lot. my dealer throws in a free tank of gas with purchase, and with today's prices, that's a deal I wont argue.

What people should save their negotiation skills for are the ripoff dealer "prep" and "doc" fees that, anything beyond about $50-70, is pure profit for the dealer's slimmest profit margin--new cars. Remember the dest charge U that's worked into yr msrp means mfgr to customer, not mfrg to dealer. That charge is meant to help underwrite *most* of the dealer's prep and paperwork labor and any supplies needed to deliver yr new MINI.

Here, resistance is NOT futile!!

Negotiate? Full tank of gas? That may be reduced to half tank soon or a gallon.

If you ask for quotes online from every dealer in a 250 mile radius and let them know you've done that, they're going to throw something your way as an incentive that you're very unlikely to get in person.

Mine threw in the stripes and chrome exterior package.......although the chrome exterior package doesn't seem to want to fit my car so I'm not sure if I'm even getting that.

They tried to add it on at the last minute but I was firm and told them to forget the sale then and that I'd just order my Mini instead. They ended up throwing it in!

I also talked down my monthly payments quite a bit. Not sure if they actually took money off the car, but I certainly made him shop around for good interest rates. When all was said and done, I knocked the monthy payment down by almost $40 from what they originally told me!!!!

Negotiate?

There really wasn't any negotiation with our dealer here in Vegas. It is simply accepted that you will pay sticker. Our MA was Donovan and he was great. No pressure at all. He asked us why we were interested in a Mini and seemed pleased with our answer. The fact that all the guys working there seem to drive Mini's says a lot. They either get a great deal on them or they truly love what they sell. We got damned lucky that they had the perfect car right off the truck for us. We picked it up the next day. We were able to get the windows tinted next door and the BMW dealership for free. I guess that is our one good deal other than getting a car on our second trip to the dealership. I can't wait to drive it up to Washington on our first road trip. Now I just need to find the best route with the windiest roads...

I just bought from Mini of Concord (CA). I paid MSRP and got free floor mats. I had to call 3 other dealerships in the northern california area before I found one that didn't do a markup. I told each that I had a car picked out via their website and wanted it for the price I was quoted on the site. Every dealership said sorry, except Concord Mini. ..although my MA hinted that Concord may start marking prices up soon as supply is lower than demand.

Our dealer was willing to take $1k off an '08 that had been sitting on the showroom floor for a few months. We almost took that deal, but fell in love with the JCW and ordered one of those.

We had to pay sticker, but did negotiate the following freebies: $40 off 5 accessories; free labor for installation of 4 accessories; full tank of gas; Mini keychain and a JCW lanyard; rubber floor mats (didn't get one for the boot); and a stuffed bulldog. Our dealer is a super high volume seller ... they were more willing to give freebies than the first dealer we went too.

2010 MC price

Hello,

I just bought a new 2010 MINI Cooper. I shopped three local dealers in the Washington DC metro area. I chose Passport Mini of Alexandria 'cause they were square shooters.

2010 Mini Cooper Horizon Blue, 4 miles on the speedo. Premium and cold weather packages, center arm rest, Bluetooth USB iPod adapter. List: $22750.00, I negotiated pretty hard and ultimately paid: $21318.00, for a savings of $1431.00 of MSRP. I also got a fair trade-in value and a good rate on my loan. I am very happy with this deal.

Now if I can just make 30 inches of snow disappear.

When I ordered my '10, there was no dickering, bickering, or any negotiation. The price was was it was, which is fair. Obviously, because I ordered it, what I wanted was not available on any lot. Oh yeah, the free rubber floor mats were simply thrilling. But, it's not all about money. I walked away from several dealerships (being in greater LA, at least we have some choices!) because I thought I should have been treated better. I guess I found a worth while dealer!!

When I recently ordered my 2010 JCW Clubman I got 1500 off of MSRP and got locked in for 1.9% financing.

When I bought my 2009 MC off the lot in Feb 2009, the salesperson took 400 off of MSRP. This was a basic MC with nothing but Bluetooth and 16 inch wheels.

When I bought my 2007 MCS off the lot in March 2008 the sales person took off 3800 off of MSRP. This was a almost fully loaded car with 698 miles on it.

2009 Mini Cooper S out of South Bay BMW.

MSRP: $28,650

Paid: $27,000.00 + free mats + free key chain (no real value, obviously, but they were a pleasure to work with and didn't mind a good negotiation session.)

Was wondering how long it would take for him to show up!!

Guy owns dealerships, got a sweet inside deal, and likes to boast about it. Shame on him.

Funny that you should mention that, the dealer sold me this car as NEW, and I've had nothing but problems with it. It is currently in the process of being lemoned and the lawyer thinks this car was previously sold, brought back and resold to me as new.

If it was actually sold, it would be titled and should show up on Carfax. More likely it was a loaner, 700 miles don't just magically appear on a car.

Tell me about it!!! I purchased my MINI from Alexandria as well. I've had it for 3 weeks, and yup, snow! I can't wait until the Sring and Summer. I hate this weather.

Anyways, my cousin is one of MINI's top sellers and he's based out of Alexandria. Needless to say I didn't have to negotiate at all. I got a lil over $1500 off list price and then I got the extended maintenance plan and warrenty at face value. I'm happy I didn't have to deal with the haggling.
