R56 How was everyone's negotiating experience?
I got mine at Irvine MINI...a few hundred below sticker. Called or dealt with every other dealer in So Cal...they either didn't have the car I wanted, or they were into playing the mark up game. The internet guys are a bit squirrely, but I ended up working with Jessica, who was great. The internet guy wanted to jerk me around and said that there were options on the car that could not be removed...that had not actually been installed at all. So we blew that guy off and worked with Jessica. No BS from her, she made the whole transaction really fun.
Anyway, bottom line, we got the deal for---I don't remember--a few hundred below sticker and a full tank of gas.
Oh, and since I can't say it enough...I LOVE MY CAR! I'd buy it again today!

I plan to use my Visa and collect the points = $1 equals 1 cent cash back - do the math, not bad and I leave my cash in the bank for that extra 30 days and collect the interest. Works as long as I don't allow that Visa bill to go over the due date - then I am screwed..lol
Most places will let you charge a credit card, just as long as you also offer to pay the extra 3-5% service charge for the use. I've seen both my father and my father-in-law do it. One was for the total purchase of a used car Chevy and one was for part of the down payment of a Honda Fit. Most people aren't really willing to pay a few extra thousand dollars after bargaining for free products worth a hundred.
I bought my '07 MCS below MSRP at Irvine Mini...
...they had the usual "Mark Up" sheet on the window, but I was flexible with color (dark silver, sparkling silver, silver, or white) and options. My only conditions were Sport Pkg, Sunroof, and Crown Spoke Wheels. This allowed me to work out the best deal for any of the cars on their lot. We settled on a Dark Silver/White Top car with Sport, Premium, Conv, and they swapped the wheels to the crowns. They were great to work with, did not play any games with me, and sold the car for below MSRP (more than $500 below). I worked with Clint Mooney and highly recommend him.

But she wanted me to pay for her mistake in quoting the wrong price for the iPod adapter (was quoted $250 including install). When she started to act like a used car salesman, I dealt with the Sales Mgr. He honored the quote. They offered me a fair price for my trade, but I sold it privately before my car came in.
Ordered end of February and delivered in March.
I don't like any car dealers but MML ended up being pretty straight up. They also got the nav and ipod working before I picked up the car and it worked (I've heard horror stories, and this was their first 07 nav install). So I got to give 'em props for that.
I didn't expect any discount, since it was one of the early build cars, so I didn't ask for one. I just wish I didn't live 60 miles away from ANY dealer.

Used my C/C for my $1000 depost - did not ask about final payment - I will let you know... My limit well covers it.. No, I will NOT pay the 3% to earn 1% = not that stupid / yet, lol

I was permitted to put a couple of $k on my card but not the whole thing.
For So. Cal. , monrovia dealer sells for msrp also Southbay .Talked to ma in monrovia, had a car I would be happy with,He would'nt be in for a few day's ,got off phone Santa Ana Crevier ma called where I test drove, told him I was going to Monrovia ,he said he had the same thing on the lot and would sell for msrp that they had marked up when I was there. They did charge me $80 for mats,I didn't argue better than $2000 for nothing.
Long Beach and South Bay both offer zero markup.
Irvine MINI told me that they would sell one to me at MSRP plus some extras, but I have some connections there.
I think the legality varies by state. If the state doesn't allow you to do that, then the dealership will just say they don't take credit card.
I thought those were the credit card company rules (that merchants can't charge the customer the service fee). not a law
I just called Visa and they said if a vendor has a sticker on their door that says they accept Visa, they MUST accept your card for any amount up to your available credit, and they can't charge you the service fee.
Now on a $30k vehicle, that would have gotten me a $300 ccheck from my Visa.
I'd like to demand a credit the next time I buy something from the dealer, but want to be sure of my rights before I shoot my mouth off.
Any lawyers out there familiar with credit card law who can answer this defiinitively?

I paid MSRP at herb chambers in Boston. They were closer than the infamous Mini of Peabody. I received no perks, gifts, or otherwise free items. They even had to order me a second key, as they could not find the second one.
The worst thing was I went to pick up the car on Sept 1st, the same day all of the students were moving into their new appts. What a mess.

I don't remember seeing any sticker on any car dealership. My dealer said they accept up to $2500 on credit card on top of my $1000 deposit. So I paid $3500 on credit card. The most I have ever paid on the credit card for a car is about $4000. It was the drive off for a leased car. They let me put the entire amount on my credit card.
Brecht in Escondido said that there is a max of $5000 on one c/c. I asked and they said we could put it on multiple cards. So when the car comes in I'll put the down payment on 3 cards. Might as well. I just don't understand how they can limit it to $5000 as long as your limit is enough. Sounds a little shady.
I was in the process of talking to the dealer, and had pretty much decided what i wanted. He called one day and said he had one at port that was almost exactly what I wanted. So I paid a $500 deposit to get it delivered to my dealership but told him I wasn't committing to buying that specific car, only committing to buying a car at some point in the next few months.
I had read and heard that MSRP is the best you can expect, so i didn't try to haggle over the price. I saw a car in the showroom that I liked a little more than the one they were trying to sell me except it cost about a grand more because of the no flats and some other small thing. I asked if he could switch the tires because i was NOT going to get the run flats. His answer was a quick NOPE, before I even got the words out of my mouth.
I paid MSRP for the original car, paid for my rubber floor mats, but no dealer fees or charge for 'installing' the floor mats.. which I would have had a fit about. I got a full tank of gas, a key chain and a hat, whoopie.
But, don't forget the goodies.. I've since received a shirt from my dealer, an adventure kit from MINI, and yesterday I got a stencil "MINI PARKING ONLY".
