R56 How was everyone's negotiating experience?
I whined 'til I got the "friends & family discount". I already had purchased another MCS at the same dealer, same salesman.
Quite a bit less than retail, mats included... ...no bonnet stripes.
And the sideview mirrors don't work.

When you say friends and family discount, did you get the actual dealer discount that employess and family members get like the xplan from Ford, or did you get a price reduction just for being a repeat customer?
Well last nite I had one of the best car buying experiences ever. Me and my man drove to Boston to Herb Chambers BMW/MINI. We were told they had a car that had almost everything we were looking for. So we got off work and 2.5 hrs later we arrived at Herb Chambers.(oh yeah we got lost...really really lost) anyways. We paid MSRP they wouldn't budge on that, however I got everything I wanted...Heck I even got some free car mats, a hat AND the tires swaped out for the ones I wanted at no extra charge. Now if that wasn't enough they offered free of charge to flatbed the car to us so we wouldn't have to drive the 2hrs back to pick it up! It was a great experience!! We will have our new 2007 MCS next week and we can't wait!
Brian Harris MINI in Baton Rouge, LA. Chose a MCa on the lot. Paid MSRP, got carpet mats, rubber boot mat, full tank o' petrol and a $300 gift card to purchase accessories. Easy deal, fast and friendly.
Crown Mini in Richmond, VA
I ordered my mini yesterday!!! I got MSRP and free mats and the guy told me that I could pick out a shirt in the accesories catalogue and he would buy it for me to go with my new mini! I think it was his first sale (he said he was brand new) but I was excited anway. Also it was very easy as soon as I went in they asked me what I wanted and when they didn't have it on the lot they offered to order it right way (instead of trying to upsell me.) They even looked at the cars that were in production to see if any were what I wanted or close. All in all it was great. Now I just have 6 or so weeks to wait!!

Now, welcome to the longest 6ish weeks of your life.
Just ordered mine Friday and seriously cannot recommend Otto's MINI in West Chester, PA enough! Paid $300 under MSRP, free floor-mats, and got a very reasonable document fee of just 55 bucks. Now for the wait... :O
LB and SB are the only dealers willing to do MSRP in SoCal. And very friendly towards the Mini clubs...LB is willing to do a Few $$ with mats.. under MSRP to some Mini Clubs...(C3/SCMM/MU).......SB said they'll match that.

Birdman,
It's not all about your negotiating skills. When I went to see my local dealer in early June (Schomp in Denver - 60 miles from my house), they had out-sold their allocation and couldn't even give me a production slot until now (first week of August). So, why would they discount a vehicle that they surely could sell at full MSRP? My other "local" dealers (Albuquerque (sp?)- 440 miles, Salt Lake- 530 miles) were in the same situation.
I ended up buying my Mini in KC (585 miles) because they had immediate production slots available and they would "discount" their price by $300 to cover the cost of a one-way ticket.
I guess population density has something to do with negotiations.

Apparently the rest of us MINI owners are "nuts". You must have those "magic MINI beans" I've heard so much about that allows you to pay 5% below MSRP when the entire rest of the country pays sticker or MORE. Whatever.
Birdman,
I priced the Mini S with options I want and end up with
$24,100 (LSD+SS+Fog+ComfortKey) according to KBB. Invoice on the car is
$21,837 which is some 9% off from MSRP. So 5% is aggressive for such a
new car but not impossible. I just hope Socal dealer will be willing to take
deal like that
.I agree that dealers only accept MSRP because most people are willing to
pay MSRP. I'm guessing that is the message you're trying to pass on this
thread.
JT,
YES, that is the message I'm trying to pass.... and hoepfully some folks will read this prior to throw money away and make the dealers work a bit. Currenlty they are laughing all the way to the bank, and continue on to their Yachts! ;-)
Just tryin to help a fellow buyer. CHEAPER is better!!! ;-)

Here in the bay area it is as simple as if you desire a Mini, you pay MSRP or you purchase a differant vehicle. So I guess you can call me nuts, but then I did not need to spend $300 for the cold weahter package, and having lived in NY for 6 years I know I will have far better weather for motoring.

5% under MSRP is not happening in southern CA. One dealer wanted to charged me 2k over MSRP just last month and when I told him that a few other dealers in the area only charging MSRP, he told me he has no problem selling them above MSRP and I should go somewhere else. If I insisted on 5% under MSRP I am sure I will be walking out of every dealerships here empty handed.
I think the dealers here sell a lot more Minis than most other area of the country. Everywhere I look there are Minis.

You guys are missing the whole point. It's SUPPLY AND DEMAND. BUY THE CAR ELSEWHERE. You could order the car from an east coast dealer of your choice at 5% below MSRP, have it shipped for $500, and save a couple grand. And the best part about it is, if you ALL did it, guess what? The dopey CA dealers would ALSO sell cars for what they are supposed to be selling them for instead of ripping people off. Cause that is what they are doing if you ask me, ripping folks off.
But hey, don't listen to me, spend your money. I'm just a dopey NY'er! ;-)

all the Mini dealers in your area at once... I bought two cars that way.
