R56 The Official Nightfire Red Owners Club
You know how a cat will get down low and wiggle their tail just before they pounce on their favorite paper ball? Romi is like that. She is always ready to pounce. And ya cant help but lub that boot when it wiggles.
Apt! Apt, I tells ya!!!! Someone should tell marketing that the bulldog motif needs some updating.
Update! Willow is on the train and will be in city on Sunday...but this is a Canadian long weekend (Victoria Day!) and he may not be loaded off train until Tuesday or Wednesday next week. Once he gets to the dealer, he'll need the options installed, which will take a few days. Retro gas cap requires painting a metal ring around the chrome cap..so that takes a few days extra. And the driving lights and detailing will take a day too.
So, worst case scenario is that he'll be ready either the 29th or 30th.
Lucky thing, my dealer keeps trying to order more cars and they're only allowing him 2 cars a month and then nothing after August...orders are all booked up! WHEEW...glad it wasn't me!

Well...looking at the bright side...I can go see it, I can walk up and touch it, but I just can't drive it yet.....so close...yet so far!

In other threads, Muse said that her car will be in tomorrow...but not sure if her dealer will be open? I'm so excited to see hers!
As for Willow, I went out a bought a few packs of new batteries for the digicam. It may still be a week tho!
And so? Any more new arrivals??
Just thought I would say, NFR is an incredibly beautiful color. I finished detailing Romi this weekend and,..OMG!!! She is even more beautiful.
She drew a crowd in a parking lot Sunday while the Wife and I were eating lunch. About 10 people just buzzed around her. I finally had to go out there as it was getting apparent they were not going to leave until they could talk to the owner.
And that is exactly what they did. I got hammered by,
"How much?!?!"
"What color is that!?!?!"
"It's sooo tiny!!"
"What's the gas mileage?!?!"
"What happens when the wind blows it over?!?"
"What's with the big speedometer?!?"
"Can it go uphill?!?!"
"When you gonna get the rest of it painted?!?" (in reference to the black roof)
"Hey! Those tires look like real car tires!"

I have all my people trained and they no longer ask silly questions. In fact, most of them can now tell you who Alec Issigonis was, John Cooper was, and which years Minis won the Monte!!!!!
waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!
my whining for the day is this:
i am suppossed to be at 10 am at one of my best clients to take a group photos of their agents(this is the people that pay my main chunk of change - the muse providers if you will) and my mom took her car (cause i forgot to tell her) and now i am carless except for my hyndai which is sold and is not suppossed to be driven.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaah!
if i had my MINI none of this would be happening...but of course the dorks in GA decided to take an extra week to put my child on a truck! preposterous!
ok my whining for the day is done....
dennis and gokartride we are almost at the finish line.............:impatient

Sorry to hear about the delay Muse. They were probably spiffing it up extra nice at VDC?!
I finally got out to the country this weekend, twisties galore! Does anyone else actually enjoy going to the in-laws so much? Twisties, belgian beers, Mets games on satellite. But boy, I always have hated driving on the highway, in traffic, in downpour, at night. The MINI is no magic fix for that.
Here's a couple of detailing questions. I'm not just being lazy about searching for advice, but...well, pretty much I am, but I'm also going straight to the nuttiest source (yea, you Skuzzy)
1) How do you get huge piles of dried up bird poop off? This paint seems sooo delicate. I saturated and saturated and saturated with water, wiping a bit off at a time and still scratched the paint. Advice on better technique and "over the counter" products?
2) OK, now that I have some decent little scrathces, what's the best triage, again "over the counter", especially a little something I can do today with stuff I have at home before my wife sees it!

WHAT? Scratches already? Aren't you supposed to drive it around with the cover on it for the first 3 years? Won't the sun fade the paint? Just what do you think you're doing Rooandren?
Muse & gocartride.....how come the last few steps are sooooooo big? I still can't even see the finish line!!!!!

Bird poop is one of the worst things to deal with on car paint. And yes, the Mini paint is very delicate compared to many others.
Bird poop, or bug guts.
Get some car wash soap, or Dawn (take care as Dawn will strip most waxes off the finish, but will not hurt the paint) and mix a concentration of it in spray bottle with about 75% to 85% warm water (distilled is preferred). Spray it on the poop, let it set for a few minutes. Rinse with a strong stream of water. Repeat until done.
If the poop has been on there for a while, you nmay need to actually wipe of the parts which have etched into the paint. Use a micro-fiber mitt to do so and rub gently and slowly.
I would encourage all of you to get a smallish sprayer bottle and a couple of micro-fiber towels to carry around with you when you are going to be out and about. Bird poop and bug guts are not to be messed with. They will etch the paint surface and th flaw will stick out like a sore thumb on NFR. Just fill the bottle before you get out and about. Do a quick check when you park and before you leave. Any poop, then spray and gently remove with the micro-fiber towel. A few surface scratches are better than the etching the poop will do.
To remove surface sscratches/swirls from paint.
This is tricky. You have to remember when you remove swirls/scratches, you are actually removing paint from the surface until it gets level with the bottom of the swirl/scratch.
If the scratches are shallow enough, sometimes a good polymer sealant will cover up scratches/swirls by filling them in. This is temporary, but it is sometimes preferred.
If you are not into carnuaba wax and want something easy, then try using Prima Hydro. It is a wax which is applied as you dry the car after washing it. A lot of folks swear by it. You can order it online from http://www.detailersparadise.com/_sy...qryDefault.asp
Get back with me if that does not hide the scratches. Get some pics if can showing the scratches in a reflective light so I can see the ridges.

Muse, sorry to hear about your car. Although I do know how you feel. But I did ok once I got to the VDC. It just took forever to get to that point.

And this weekend I was so fond of the birdies, was in the country watching woodpeckers, hummingbirds and cardinals. Now I am awaiting epidemics of avian flu. Thanks for the input Skuzzy! Guess I gotta go get me some wax and finally make that hydro order.
That obstructed my view a wee bit. But you'll be happy to know when I'm on vacation next week I'm going to try to park her on my 4th floor terrace wrapped in cellophane.

Vacation? You're going on vacation and not taking your new baby with you? Should I report this to Cooper and Family Services workers?

You go, Romi!!!!!!
