R56 Things you didn't know about your R56 MINI
So remove the nubbins, then the headrests will go all the way down. I removed mine after about 2 days of ownership. They come off very easily
This took me a few months, so maybe it'll be a complete revelation for someone else, and I won't feel too foolish...
You know how on regular key'ed ignitions, you have the "On" position, then turn past that to start the car? There's the same with the MINI's push-start ignition button too.
With the key fob in, but without your foot on the brake, push the ignition button. The car is now "On" -- and the important part for me -- now the 12V cigarette lighter ports are powered up. Good for if you need to plug in a portable air compressor, a mini vacuum (which I got but was sad I couldn't use until I figured this out), charge your phone, etc...

What did you use to drive the metal pins out?
They can be pushed out easily with a jeweler's screwdriver, a pin punch, or even a round toothpick.
No "driving" required.

Anything that is small enough (diameter), long enough, and sturdy enough to fit into the little hole where is pin is will work. In my case my wife and I used a metal shish-kabob skewer! The pins do push out pretty easily, took about 5 seconds each. We also found easiest if you take the headrest out of the car and do this in your lap so you can push down on the pin and use gravity to your advantage.

Glad they fixed it, though--we tend to keep our cars a little longer than forever (we've had one for 44 years now!), but maybe in about 5 or 6 years I'll worry about it.
I've never had problems with either a sunroof rattle or wiper noise. I do have an irritating squeak that developed about 4 months ago. (Well, actually, my CAR developed the squeak.) It's intermittent, and shows up about every 2 or 3 drives, for 10 minutes to forever when it does. When riding together, Hubby and I each think it's on the other side.
I didn't know it would be made of tin-foil ...
One year a small branch falls off a tree during a rain-storm and hits the right-rear section of the roof. Small dent.
One day I have my hands full so used my elbow to close the hatch. Small but remarkably deep and noticeable dent just below the window on the round part of the hatch. Grrr...
Recently used my fore-arm to close the trunk from the side as I had bikes on the back and they were in the way. Several inch long shallow 'divet'.
I repeat ...

Anyone know what this is for?
With the LCI (2011 update), MINI has added a small dot to the "windmill" fuel gauge. So, illuminated, you have the 10 vanes of the windmill, the fuel symbol, and this little round dot. It stays orange even when the last 2 vanes turn red.
Anyone know what it's for?

Hi Daffodildeb
From a discussion WAY back in this thread - the LCI update remembers exactly where it is up to on a CD indefinitely. Provided you don't remove the CD, you can turn it off, play the radio, leave it untouched for days - and it will restart where it was last time you used it.

It marks the "full" location on the gauge so one can deduce the approximate fraction of the fuel tank capacity remaining even at night in the dark.
In my 07 there's a round illuminated dot after all the pedals.
That's strange. My 07 (R56) Just-a-Cooper doesn't have it.
Most MINI owner's that I've come in contact with don't know that you can turn the stereo on in the car without the key fob in the ignition - simply press in on the volume control.
Apologies if this has been covered before - a cursory search didn't turn up anything.
