Does the CD player play MP3 CDs?

Does anyone know if the CD player in R56 play MPE CD's? I would have thought that MiniUSA.com would have mentioned if that was the fact but maybe manifacturers aren't mentioning it as this is becoming a standard features in car CD players.

Since it became a standard item in the 05s, I would assume that the answer is yet. However, it's just an assumption. You're right that it's becoming an expected thing these days though. Same as car makers don't advertise power steering or power brakes any more. They're assumed to be there. Another couple of years and an auxilliary input port for an MP3 player will be in the same category. It's stock in a $28k FJ Cruiser from Toyota.

Yes to MP3s

My 2006 MCSa HK system plays MP3s. My son made me two more last evening and they work great. Depending on the music type the total system is the best I have heard in a car sterio system.

You do have to pick the right music!

Now instaed of news driving to work I play the MP3s with what I want to hear. FANTASTIC

The R56's standard Boost stereo only recognizes CD LASERs, but not DVD or newer. It will play normal [Mac/PC] file system MP3 audio tracks as well as WAV files, like a normal CD. If you have DVD navigation, then I'm not sure what kind of DVD data formatting it can read.

Thanks! Do you by chance know why the standard boost player only seems to work with xp mp3 CDs and not vista?

If I used a program like Nero on my vista. Would it work?

Doesn't matter which OS you use to make the CD. Just burn it as a data disk. Be sure to organize the songs into albums/folders etc - it'll work.

The 07+ stereos also show the mp3 tag data in the readout along with folders/songs etc.

It works very well.

That's exactly what I use to burn mp3 CDs for the MINI. Burning data discs using Nero on Vista, it works fine.

Yeah I have an iPod too I was just curious. I'm also curious if instead of track #,it can show the name exactly like how the radio looks like.

I know u can press list and up and it will show but is there anyway to make it show like how it does on radio

In some countries the MC one, MC D, MC and MCS do not have an mp3 player. You may specify to obtain the more advanced radio system (MINI BOOST)

what i am asking is...

when it is on radio..like FM. it will sometimes play the song name and artist in a scrolling fashion.

can it do that for the mp3 files you are playing on a cd. (yes i know you can press list and current). But i just really like the interface and how it looks when it shows on the radio.

Only if you have the built in I-pod interface I believe. With that you are also able gto change the i-pod with the controls on the steering wheel.
