Poly V Belt

Looks like there's an expensive belt to change.

When you read through the document it only mentions the first 2 engines in the range. One normally aspirated with 115hp and one turbocharged variant with 143hp...the cooper s engine which will have 170hp is not mentioned in this right up although I would think it would have a lot of similar specs and construction just with a slightly larger turbocharger.

It is mentioned

later in the doc, as a "future variant". But this was released in 2004, so it's not that new a news-flash....

Also, our current cars run a poly-v belt. It's the 6 ribber we're so used to changing!

The v belt runs the accessories not the cams.

Is it me?

Is it me? Or does anyone see an opportunity for MINIUSA to add the MINI ONE to the line up.

2007 MINI one with 115 HP. Bump the 2007 MC to 143 HP and take the 2007 MCS to 170 HP!

The text states there is no maintenence required on the belt. Unless you plan on putting a million miles on the engine, I wouldn't spend too much time worring about it. There is a serpentine belt not a "V" belt that drives the alternator and AC compressor.

what the hell is that?

What, thats not a turbo. that looks like the heater blower motor..

why is the heater core mounted off of the intercooler piping?

oh.... what....oh, you mean that thing is the intercooler..... oh i see.

what is this crap? That litte tubo is a sick joke, and so is that intercooler.

Im having sick flashbacks of stock two-two turbo dodges...

and this twinscroll stuff......sounds like something else thts more complicated than it needs to be and its just one more thing to break.

I really hope the aftermarket hops on this one soon. i'm not having any part in buying an 07 till i can get a look in the engine bay of this car. from the looks of it now, i'm not too satisfied with BMW's idea of a turbo car....

Not sure what belt you mean, but it states the new engine has a timing chain, not a belt.

Pretty impressive sounding technology, especially for a relatively inexpensive car.

I can' t wait to check it out.

3 things I'm not a fan of on the new engine.

1. The manufacturing process on the engine. I have never been a huge fan of lost foam.

2. Water Pump. I hope bmw sees the need to fix that!

3. the aluminum crank case. WEEEE. BOOM!

What worries me are the water pump & oil pump on demand. Are cars already have an aluminum crank case...aka oil pan. Aluminum blocks have been around for quite a while & seems to have the bugs worked out of them. If there are bugs in this engine, they will iron them out too. It will be 5 or so years until I buy one of the new batch anyway, so I guess I need not worry.

These technologies have been around for a while...

but what is new is getting them on such a low priced car. Don't sweat it, and enjoy the fact that there's more power and efficiency to be had because of it!

All in all, a better engine--more powerful, better fuel economy. I'm stoked.

I look forward to the change, I just don't look forward to he possible problems. I would hope that they do enough r&d before plopping the car out there on the market!

Thanks but like some others...I am staying with a proven design...perhaps in 5 yrs when the Mini is 2 feet larger.... (maybe they will change the name to the Maxi Atkins ???)

Anyone notice that Toyota may not release their 2007's for 6 more months, citing recalls and safety issues...RUSH TO MARKET!!!

I guess I just like what I know works (if they want a beta tester...Pay $$$$)

OT:...I bought a new snowblower last year...made sure it had the Old Tacasumesh (sp?) iron block...not the new aluminium multivalve job....My last one was the same design and it was still going strong after 15 yrs...just wanted something larger after we had a 6 foot storm 2 yrs ago!!
